The Phantom of the Opera: Link & Win Review
Back in 1986, Andrew Lloyd Webber developed a musical based on the French novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra. By 2004, The Phantom of the Opera had adapted into a feature length film after a long-stint in development hell.
Sadly, the film did not become the huge success that everyone was hoping for - but has since become a cult-classic amongst fans. It's this status that has driven Triple Edge Studios to create The Phantom of the Opera: Link & Win.
This isn't the film slot adaptation of the film, as Microgaming released The Phantom of the Opera slot in 2017. However, Triple Edge Studios decided it was time for an upgrade with modern mechanics such as the added Link & Win.
Design
It wouldn't be a Phantom of the Opera slot without the amazing music from the film. It's an instrumental version of The Phantom of the Opera theme song which is probably for the best as it takes a lot to be able to listen to Gerald Butler sing.
In the Link & Win rounds, players will hear Masquerade and The Phantom of the Opera theme again in free spins but this is more of a techno remix.
One strange element in this slot is definitely the lack of main characters as only the Phantom (Gerald Butler) and Raoul de Chagny (Patrick Wilson) which is odd considering they are love rivals. The lack of Christine Daaé (Emmy Rossum) is noticeable and makes the slot feel really cheap.
The rest of the slot does look up to a high standard and manages to embrace the decadence of the film - but the lack of main characters is worrying. It's strange that Triple Edge Studios obtained the rights for the film but not the actors.
Gameplay
The Phantom of the Opera: Link & Win definitely has a lot going for it with the respin mechanic, free spins, fixed jackpots, jumbo symbols and even stacked wilds. The developers have definitely put a huge amount of effort into creating a fun experience.
At the bottom of the screen is where players will find all the relevant buttons and menus. The spin button and bet level can be found on this bar as well as the menu and paytable.
Win Potential
It's often expected that a branded slot will contain a poor win potential but that is certainly not the case with The Phantom of the Opera: Link & Win. Firstly, there is a strong RTP of 96.08% followed by a high volatility level.
In terms of the maximum win, players can win up to 12,650x the stake which is over the average for modern online slots. Fans will definitely be delighted by this amount as there are multiple routes to obtain the biggest wins.
Our Verdict
This slot is almost the perfect example of a branded slot but fails due to the lack of main characters. Whilst this is disappointing, it does not ruin the experience of the slot and fans of the film will certainly appreciate the rest.
The Phantom of the Opera: Link & Win has unbelievably thrilling gameplay and an even better win potential. This is not just for fans of the musical, but for slot enthusiasts in general.
