Professor Clank’s Combinator is the first in this mini series that we reviewed and it scored highly thanks to the big max win, fun bonus game and host of modifiers that were integral to the plot. It strikes me that the professor has got a few tricks up his sleeve and this might not be an exact replica.
10,000 ways to win a prize is a pretty decent offering and it's possible thanks to an additional, horizontal reel at the top of the game area.
The main set of reels are 6x4 and across these, you'll land low-paying symbols, which are represented by the royals and pictures, which pay the best returns.
Of the royal symbols, you’ll see the best results from 6 aces, but these will still only get you 1x. To watch your wins grow in a more speedy manner, you'll need to see the picture symbols come into play. Of these, the best is six of the strange diving suits, which might also double up as a teapot! Six of these will get you 50x.
The professor is wacky and useful as he appears as a wild symbol and will substitute for those mentioned above.
The top set of reels brings the same symbols along and adds additional ways to your win potential.
Each time a set of winning symbols land by hitting adjacent reels and starting from the left-hand reel, the winning symbols will explode. In the base game, it means that new symbols come into play but in the free spins bonus, it can mean a little more.
The scatter symbols are two rows high, but you won't see them appearing on the horizontal reel at the top. You'll need three of these to appear to trigger the free spins bonus.
As you enter the free spins game, you'll see three free plays with prizes awarded for the triggering scatters.
You spin the reels with a multiplier that begins at 1 and each time a win explodes, the multiplier increases and each time a scatter symbol lands, you get your spins reset. Scatter symbols that appear in full view will award the prize labelled on them and these can range between 1x and 100x.
Any of the wins can be boosted by the win multiplier that keeps on building as you play.
3 respins are reset each time a scatter symbol lands and you can start to collect the cash value that they represent. Every standard win begins to help the multiplier grow and this figure will increase your payouts.
The explosions, morphs and boosters helped to make the original game an exciting place to enjoy your regular spins. You could pick up decent payouts all over the place and the max win was pretty similar. Unfortunately, this latest version has done away with such modifications and the main highlight now is just the bonus respins. That said, you can still pick up some huge wins if that multiplier grows high enough thanks to regular payouts.
The scatter symbols will also provide some welcome support along the way. The volatility is high in this new game and that will affect how it pays out. If you're not looking for such high risk, then I'd recommend that you go back to the original.
The steampunk style continues with this creation and it seems fairly clear that the developer didn't want to mess around with the original design. Things could have been advanced a little bit to give it some more variation but it's still a good-looking game.
The reels are set on the front of some steam-powered machine and all kinds of weird gadgets and gizmos surround the game area. The soundtrack is wacky and frenzied and it'll keep you alert while you play on your desktop, laptop or mobile phone.
The main difference between Professor Clank's 10K Ways and the opening gambit is that you now have high volatility, more ways to win a standard prize and fewer base game modifiers. It's not necessarily a better game than the first one, but it is slightly different. You'll have to play both to decide which one you prefer. For me, the original might have the edge.
