The Base game offering is a fairly simple 10 pay lines on which you need to land one of the seven regular symbols. Green, purple and yellow snowflakes are the least valuable but still have fairly decent payouts with 3x available for five of the purple snowflakes. The 4 wooden chaps see those values increase with Piney being top of the tree, harbouring a fantastic 200x win for five matching symbols.
There is nothing else to ponder during the Base game and as before, all of the excitement has been reserved for the Plinko Bonus.
It is all about this Bonus game and players outside the UK might be able to buy directly in at the cost of 92x, where available. If I had the option, I'm pretty sure I would be taking it.
For us mere British mortals, we have to wait and see three or more Scatter symbols arrive to trigger the game. Each of these Scatters presents a number and this is the total turns you will play during the main event. Before you start, you can gamble this number by paying a premium and this can improve the number of turns quite drastically or end up costing a fortune for not many more. As they say, it is a gamble! I'm not entirely sure if this will be available in the UK either.
During the first round of the Plinko Bonus, you release one ball at a time and watch them fly towards the buckets at the bottom that award a prize. Some additions for this second release of Pine of Plinko include Bumper Buckets and Golden Balls.
The balls will hit the bumpers in the middle and this increases the meter at the top. When full, you move on to round two. Bumper Buckets simply ping the balls back up from the bottom of the screen and a Golden Ball can bring a potential win of 10,000x.
Filling the aforementioned meter takes you to level two where more balls are released with each turn. You are also awarded 10 extra turns upon arrival. The game ends when all of the balls are gone.
You enter the game with the number of turns stated on the Scatters and now you just need to release the balls! Hitting the bumpers moves you through the levels where you can release more balls per turn. Bumper Buckets fire balls back up and Golden Balls can bring 10,000x wins.
Before you play the Plinko Bonus, you get to gamble the number of turns on your Scatters. It’ll cost you handsomely and there’s no guarantee that you’ll improve the score.
The original Pine of Plinko slot was a fantastic game but wasn’t without its flaws. The main issue was surrounding the lack of Base game action, and not much has been done to address this the time around. However, the Plinko Bonus is without a doubt, more advanced than ever, and I had a blast watching those balls pinging around and racking up the wins!
While not strictly a Christmas slot, you can't help but feel a little magical glow while spinning these reels. The design is almost identical to the original game but everything is now covered in snow. The sound effects are sweet enough with some light classical music keeping you warm on your climb to the top of this pine tree.
I was really hoping that Print Studios had addressed the lack of base game action from the first version, alas it was not to be. You really could just play the bonus game and forget all about the base game. But what a Bonus it is, so well worth the effort if you ask me.
The win potential has received a bit of a boost this time around and the original 10,000x top win can be achieved in Pine of Plinko 2 with just one drop of the Golden Ball. 20,000x is now the max reward and as you can imagine, the volatility is high. The RTP is now 96.49%, but this will fluctuate slightly at different parts of the game.
It really is a game of two halves and if it weren't for the Plinko Bonus, I'd be kicking Pine of Plinko 2 to the curb. Sure, it's sweet and delivers a warm fuzzy feeling as you watch the snow fall on this idyllic setting but the lack of Wilds and other modifiers are hard to ignore. Personally, I'll be trudging through the base game just to get to the Bonus simply because it is fantastic. Perhaps version number 3 will see some of my gripes reviewed.
