This highly volatile 5x4 slot has an RTP of 96% and 1,024 ways to win. To be in with a chance of landing that 25,000x max win, you first need to choose your bait of between 20p and £40. It’s then just a case of landing identical symbols on 3, 4 or 5 consecutive reels, starting from the leftmost reel. 

If more than one matching symbol is on the same reel, then the value is multiplied. Sea creatures are more valuable, and why shouldn’t they be? They’re delicious. You’ve got a purple crab, a blue jellyfish, a green puffer fish, a yellowy octopus and a red fish. 5 of these matching symbols will net you between 1.5x and 3x your stake, and you’ve still got your multipliers on top of that. Starfish symbols are Wilds. They land on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th reel and can substitute for any pay symbols.

Respins

Scatter symbols fall on the 5th reel and come in the fishy, feminine form of a mermaid. If one falls, you get another spin with that particular Mermaid’s modifying feature applied to it. There are 4 different types of Mermaid. 

There’s the blue Multiplier Mermaid, which can multiply your wins from anywhere between 2x and 25x! Then there’s the green Avalanche Mermaid, who removes the winning symbols from the grid, thereby allowing more symbols to fall, thereby giving you more chances to win. The red-headed No Lows Mermaid stops those lily-livered, land-loving low-pay symbols from falling, meaning only the higher-paying sea creature symbols will drop. And finally, there’s the expanding golden Wild Mermaid. This amphibious maiden makes Wild symbols expand to cover their entire reel, which will of course increase your odds of landing winning combos. Also, on the 5th reel, players might see a +1 symbol drop. This awards another respin.

If 3 Orb/Pearl Free Spins symbols drop (on reels 1,3 and 5), you get 10 free spins. A Mermaid Scatter symbol can substitute for a Pearl symbol, too. If that happens, that mermaid’s characteristic—Multiplier, Avalanche, No Lows, Expanding—is also applied for the remainder of the Free Spins round, and any subsequent Mermaids that drop will operate in the same way! 

When a Mermaid feature is already activated, any symbols matching that characteristic turn into +1 symbols—extra spins. You can potentially have all 4 Mermaid modifiers active at the same time!

For just 15x their stake, players outside the United Kingdom will probably be able to pay to have a Mermaid symbol land on the 5th reel. Players can also buy 10x free spins for 200x their bet. Yggdrasil Gaming has a history of aquatic slots - Golden Fish Tank 2 Gigablox and Nice Catch Doublemax to name but two. With stunning graphics, 1,024 win ways and a max win of 25,000x, perhaps Enchanted Waters has the potential to make some waves.

Design

It has a standard 5x4 gaming area, but the graphics here are even better than those of the aforementioned slots, whose graphics are pretty good as it is. The animations are really fluid, and the vibrant colours give the screen a lot of depth, which will help to keep players immersed in the game—all sea puns intended. 

The action takes place both above and under the sea, so you’ve got two well-designed settings to marvel at. The ambient music and sound effects all serve to keep you nice and relaxed regardless of the outcome.

Game Play

I found Enchanted Waters very easy to play. Given the number of win ways, there’s almost always something happening. The Bonuses and Modifiers are simple without being boring, too. A particularly nice feature is how the Mermaid modifiers can accumulate during the Free Spins. 

Win Potential

Although the game is said to be highly volatile, that wasn’t how it felt when I was playing it—perhaps I got lucky. Scatter symbols are quite frequent, so too are respins, plus you’ve got 1,024 win ways, thus you won’t be spinning for long before something happens. An RTP of 96% isn’t bad—not to mention the hardly-stingy max win of 25,000x the stake. 

Our Verdict

An enjoyable, well-presented, simple slot. I’d highly recommend this to anyone who’s looking to have a relaxed few spins. It might not be for those who want complex bonus rounds, but given the presentation and the win potential, I’d still be tempted to give it a try.
