Huge symbols have the power to smash this grid below the surface and add some attractive winning sequences. It's all thanks to the crazy brain that came up with Doom’s Digging Machine and the series of multipliers that can grow up to 100x. Burrow your way deep enough and you could unearth a 5,000x max win.

Doom's Digging Machine Review

Digging yourself a deep hole strikes me as an odd thing to do but Doom seems to think otherwise. This maniac is hell-bent on making it down as close to the Earth's core as possible and as he does so, he should be firing out a lot of debris in the form of multipliers and big wins. It's quirky and odd, to say the least, but my balance kind of likes it.

Gameplay & Features

You might have heard that there's a way of crushing some enormous wins in this game and it comes thanks to the mystery artefacts. Before we get on to that part of the show, let's take a look at the basics that make up your standard wins.

This is a scatter pays slot and that means you'll need to form matching groups of symbols anywhere on the grid. As long as you have eight of the same symbol, you'll get a payout. The lowest provide up to 5x for a group of 12 winning symbols and the highest get you 50x for the same size combo.

Mystery artefacts produce a large cluster of matching symbols that are revealed after the grid gets smashed down towards the earth's core. Artefacts may be up to 3x3 in size and they produce multipliers.

The smaller artefact gets you an s3 and the larger one produces an x5 multiplier - they all add up as long as the winning combos continue and the maximum you can see is x100. Once you've hit a losing spin, the grid heads back up to the surface and the sequence starts again.

Bonus Game

You might be lucky enough to see three scatter symbols landing during the same spin and these will take you off to enjoy 10 free spins. You could get up to 30 if you're lucky as extra scatter symbols provide an extra five spins.

During the bonus game, landing scatter symbols will also grant extra spins and they'll grow the global multiplier. This is quite important as the multiplier is the star of the show - it remains persistent throughout all of your spins. The other way to increase the multiplier is by landing those helpful artefacts once again.

When your spins start digging in the right direction and that global multiplier begins to increase, you can see some fairly special payouts. I managed to work my way up to 14 free spins and towards the end of that run, the multiplier was around 40x.

This meant that otherwise small and insignificant payouts became pretty decent and I walked away with over 250x as a result. Hopefully, you get the same luck and for players outside the UK, there's an even simpler way of getting down to business.

The Double Chance feature is available for an extra 0.4x on top of your stake and this gives you a better chance of hitting the bonus symbols. Alternatively, you might be able to go straight to the bonus game for 150x.

Doom's Digging Machine - Mystery Artefacts

Mystery Artefacts

Large blocks can smash the reels down, deep below the ground. Some are 2x2 and others are 3x3 in size. The purpose of these blocks is to reveal a group of matching group of symbols that could help create a win and they add a multiplier at the same time.

Doom's Digging Machine - Free Spins

Free Spins

Grab 10 free spins when 3 scatters hit the grid at the same time. If more land during the triggering spin, you get 5 more spins for each. The artefacts continue to add and grow the multiplier and it won’t reset after a losing spin.

Win Potential

You're going to have to dig deep if you're going to come close to finding Doom's treasure. The 5,000x max win is guarded by fairly low volatility that will make it quite difficult to produce. Small wins will eventually add up but you're going to be playing for some time. You'll need the help of multipliers and some free spins to make real headway. The hit rate is around the medium mark so you should see plenty of action occupying this grid and the theoretical Return to Player is 95.70%.

Design

It's a fun and quirky creation with plenty of animation thrown in for good measure. If you're going to bash your way down to the Earth's core, you'll need some talented designers to show it off and luckily, Octoplay has got them in abundance.

The reels are set on top of some spinning blades and as the artefacts land, you shove your way further through the bedrock. Various machines outline the game area to show you a little more about the hardware required for such a task. It looks and sounds great on mobile devices as well.

Our Verdict

There's a simplistic setup hidden behind this complicated desire to smash our way through the Earth's crust. In slots terms, multipliers and free spins aren't going to capture any headlines but they are presented in a rather unique way. Octoplay has produced the same setup a few times now and I'm watching to see what they come up with next. Hopefully, something a little more complicated will be along shortly. Nevertheless, it's a great-looking game and it's fun to play - plus you could walk away with a 5,000x payout as a result.
