Right from the first moment, you can see that this game is not like most others. It's got a huge grid filled with hexagonal spaces, and each one presents gems, characters and modifiers. My first thoughts are of Pirots 4, but Nolimit usually has its own distinct set of modifications on the table.
As you spin, the seven reels offer a number of coloured gems, and those can each deliver wins worth up to 10x. They start off quite small, but they can be upgraded as you play. The character symbols move around and pick up the colour gems that match the uniforms, and each time a character kills another character, those gems get an upgrade.
Coins can appear with values worth up to 5,000x, and if a character picks up a coin, you get awarded the prize, and if the character gets killed, those collected coins will be dropped back onto the grid. If things decide to burst, characters can leave behind a trail of coins as they move.
You've also got five types of tank boosters, which can be picked up by the characters, and these will all help improve the situation by increasing the grid size, picking up featured symbols, and various other transformations.
Bombs will remove symbols from the reels and expand the grid, and booms can help explode different parts of the game when characters line up in the right formation.
If the characters pick up three bonus symbols, you get seven basic free spins, and you see the same mechanics carry over, along with your current grid size and level of gems.
Four bonus symbols create something very similar, but coins will remain sticky, and five bonus symbols will always pay out coins collected by the characters, and if the character gets killed, the coins get dropped onto adjacent positions and will pay out if they get picked up again.
Outside the UK, various buy-ins are available, and there's also a God Mode for those who'd like to have a go at the max win by paying 4,000x.
The coins appear on all of the reels with values worth between 1x and 5,000x. When characters pick up the coins, you get awarded the value, and if the character is killed, any coins collected during that spin get dropped back onto the grid while you retain any that you've already been awarded. You can also receive a burst of coins that follows the character around the game area.
This bonus game comes to life when characters collect between three and five bonus symbols, and everybody receives seven free spins. The difference between each level is that the most basic only sees the triggering grid size and gems carry over, while the other two offer slightly better rewards. The most beneficial is the advanced bonus, where coins get carried across spins and can pay out more than once.
There's a lot going on in this game, and fortunately, every single aspect has the ability to hit you with a sizeable chunk of cash. It's unlikely that you're going to upgrade the gems too often because that requires a lot of winning spins in a row, but if you can grab the feature symbols, then you could make a dent in that max win of just over 25,000x.
The design team has created a visual for this mathematical genius and somehow made it feel completely coherent. It does follow a very similar idea that we've seen from other developers, such as ELK, but it's still pleasing to watch it all unfold, nonetheless. The grid expands as if these soldiers were making their way out into unexplored enemy territory, and the sound effects are frenzied but fun.
