Wild Hike Review
When you think of Relax Gaming, it’s usually fast-paced slot games with innovative bonus features that come to mind, such as the Money Train series. And the developer is also known for its WTF games too, including Beast Mode and Net Gains.
This time around though, Relax Gaming has chosen to live up to its name, with a peaceful night-time camping trip somewhere wild – but comfortably safe!
The design team at Relax Gaming never falls short when it comes to making their games a reality. There’s all the usual attention to detail you’d expect, with subtle animations highlighting the campfire and fireflies alongside the reels. The wild animals spring into life when they feature in a win, and even the playing card icons fit in with the theme.
There’s a gentle musical accompaniment to gameplay, which helps to emphasise the relaxation side of things. Land the free spin bonus feature and the game moves up above the skyline, giving you a sight of shooting stars in the background.
Sometimes it’s worth taking a Relax Gaming slot for some demo spins, so you get a chance to explore all the features before you start wagering any of your own bankroll. But Wild Hike is about as simple as it gets, as there’s only a free spins bonus and Wild respins to shake up gameplay.
The Wild howling wolf symbol only appears on reels 2 – 6, so it can’t generate any wins on its own. But you’ll see that reels 3 and 4 on the grid are framed with lights, and there’s a good reason for that. Any Wild landing on either of those reels will expand if it can feature in a winning combination.
An Expanded Wild Reel triggers a free respin, with more to follow just as long as the Wild keeps featuring in wins. And with every win in a sequence, the Expanded Wild Reel adds +1 to its multiplier.
Land two Wild Reels and their values multiply against each other, leading to increased wins. The multiplier value returns to 1x at the end of the feature, except during free spins.
Although Wild Hike is a high-volatility slot, it comes with a decent RTP of 96.09%, so big wins are certainly possible, but they could take a while to start landing. Any six-of-a-kind win involving playing card icons will return your stake, but it’s the animal symbols that provide better returns.
The owl pays up to 1.8x the wager, rising through 2x, 3x and 4x for the deer, boar and bear respectively. The wolf pays up to 10x your stake when seen facing forward. The side-on view indicates his presence as a Wild.
It's the increasing multipliers on the Expanded Wild Reels that give the most winning potential in Wild Hike. But spinning up the bonus round can take a huge number of spins, thanks to the volatility, so a robust bankroll management strategy is needed.
Some jurisdictions, although not the UK, permit players to Buy the Bonus for 75x the bet. It doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily win back your stake, so be careful if you decide to take this option.
We usually get extremely excited about the launch of any new slot from Relax Gaming, as the developer has literally taken our breath away from some of its previous releases. But Wild Hike turned out to be a much more gentle and relaxing style of the game altogether, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
The bonus features keep gameplay ticking along nicely enough. But it’s that huge max win potential that’s going to encourage players to come and give this slot a try. It’s by no means what we’d expected from the developer, but Wild Hike is a game that delivers a laid-back gaming session with the possibility of some seriously big wins.
