Shuriken Legend Review
The basic slot machine mechanic has been enthralling players for decades. Even though it’s now possible to add in all sorts of extras, making a few slots feel more like console games, there’s still a market for classic gameplay served up in a familiar way. If that sounds right up your street, Shuriken Legend definitely needs to be on your radar.
If you’re concerned that classic slot action sounds like a metaphor for a rushed or insubstantial game, you really don’t need to worry. The designers at SYNOT Games are more than up to the task of creating an elegant oriental setting, complete with glowing orange sunset, and beautifully-depicted symbols. It’s all backed by a chilled-out soundtrack that makes the gameplay an extremely pleasant experience.
Playing Shuriken Legend is about as easy as it gets – just set the cost of the spin and you’re ready to go. The game only has five paylines, and lining up matching symbols from left to right along one or more will award that symbol’s payout. There’s also a wild icon, which stands in for everything else except for the scatter.
The polished shuriken throwing star is the game’s scatter symbol that only appears on reels 1, 3 and 5, but land all 3 in view and you'll activate the free spins bonus, Throughout your 10 free spins, any wilds that land on the reels become sticky and remain fixed in place until the end of the feature.
Low-value playing cards have a top payout of between 20x & 30x for five-of-a-kind across a pay line. Fans and scrolls pay up to 75x, with the lady returning up to 100x, and the samurai warrior up to 200x. It’s the wild that tops the paytable, with a maximum payout of 500x for a five-of-a-kind win. Fill all five paylines with wilds to scoop 2,500x your stake.
We admit to not having particularly high hopes when we first approached Shuriken Legend as we thought it might prove to be a little dated. However, we’re happy to have been proved wrong by simple yet enjoyable gameplay and great design.
This is a slot that’s going to absolutely delight purists and even action and adventure fans might be converted too. It's a relaxing game to play—despite all the sharp throwing blades.
