Scatter Monsters Review
There's a misconception that hell is all doom and gloom and that none of the demons knows how to have fun. That is entirely inaccurate as Quickspin's Scatter Monsters showcases.
This horror slot takes place in the Underworld with a roaring festival going on. The game itself plays on a grid of 6x6 with the scatter pays mechanic matching up 8 or more symbols.
As for the gameplay, you'll find that there are meters to be filled with a specific amount of colourful symbols. These lead to symbol upgrades, removal of symbols and a free spins round with multipliers. Party in style with Scatter Monsters.
Design
Despite the slot taking place in hell, the visuals are absolutely adorable. Most of the monsters look like creatures from Hotel Transylvania or some other lighthearted movie. You can tell these are monsters but you aren't afraid of them. There is nothing terrifying about this slot.
Naturally, the background of this slot is hell with flaming firepits all around. There are stereotypical images of the Underworld with skulls and pitchforks but with nothing too crazy.
As for the audio, there is an epic rock score playing throughout. You couldn't have an Underworld slot without a musical soundtrack containing heavy metal!
Gameplay
As previously mentioned, everything in this slot builds up to the meters. The aim is to fill these meters to lead to bonuses or even better wins.
There are no paylines in this slot, instead, you gain wins by matching up 8 or more symbols of the same type which is even easier to understand than typical paylines.
Win Potential
For the most part, we were absolutely enjoying this slot and found it charming. However, this started to change when we saw the win potential. Firstly, it starts off well with an RTP of 96% which is just on the average standard. However, it doesn't get better than this.
As for the maximum win, you can only win up to 1,493x the stake in this medium volatility slot. Whilst this is not a terrible amount, it's lower than we'd like and would expect something at least 5,000x the stake. Players looking for massive wins will definitely be put off by this low amount.
Our Verdict
We were definitely torn with this slot as we were completely enamoured for the most part but the win potential let the slot down. The overall theme and design are fantastic and work well with the gameplay.
One of our favourite things about this slot was how easy and entertaining it was to play. You could literally load up the slot and understand it all straight away. Whilst the win potential isn't brilliant, it's not utterly terrible either. Ultimately, we recommend this slot but only if you are looking for charming gameplay with a unique theme.
