Rich Wilde and the Shield of Athena

Rich Wilde and the Shield of Athena is the fifth instalment in Play’n GO’s epic series of games featuring the popular adventurer. Like the previous title, Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness this new game draws on fictional fantasy elements, being set in the lost city of Atlantis.

Wilde finds himself in an epic face-off with one of the most famous figures in Greek mythology, Medusa, the woman with snakes for hair and a gaze that can turn anyone that meets it to stone.

This volatile 5-reel, 10 payline game is made that little bit more special because our hero isn’t actually alone for once! This time he’s joined by his very own daughter, Cat Wilde.

Design

It has to be said, Rich Wilde and the Shield of Athena is a beautifully designed online slot. There are two incredibly high-quality waterfalls sat either side of the reels that flow into a dark lake throughout the duration of the game. 

The reels themselves are set atop intricately designed stone columns adorned with flaming torches on either side. The entire slot gives off somewhat of a menacing aura and has the feel of a high-octane action blockbuster.

In terms of the symbols, low-value ones are your typical 10, J, Q, K, A, whilst the high-value ones are represented by iconic imagery from Ancient Greek mythology. These include an Owl, a Pendant, a Ring, the Helm of Athena and finally the Shield of Athena.

The atmospheric fast-paced background music really adds to the overall cinematic feel to the Shield of Athena. All in all, we’d like to give the team that worked on designing this slot a massive pat on the back, it’s brilliant!

Gameplay

As we mentioned, this game really does go back to basics… Which was an absolutely fantastic call from Play’n GO in our honest opinion. There’s nothing wrong with a feature-rich game that throws everything at the player, but sometimes you just want to play something simple, and this does the trick perfectly. 

There’s not much more we can say that hasn’t already been said, this well-rounded game is an ode to classic online slot games with a sleek modern touch.
