Pirate Chest: Hold and Win Review
Despite being such a popular slot theme, Pirate Chest: Hold and Win is the first pirate slot ever from Playson. As this is such a monumental occasion, Playson naturally had to do something special and could not just churn out the same old Hold and Win slot.
Pirate Chest: Hold and Win starts off quite normal with 5-reels and 25 paylines but that's where it stops. The rest of the game presents Hold and Win but with a Boost mechanic improving the gameplay! Thankfully, this mechanic is featured throughout the free spins round as well leading to some magnificent wins.
Playson has definitely tried to create something original and the Boost feature is a great start. If you love Hold and Win but are sick of the same old formulaic slots, then Pirate Chest: Hold and Win could be the one for you.
Design
The design is quite standard for Playson with decent-looking images but nothing overly exciting going on. The background is a beautiful but static image of a pirate ship reaching a cove. It's a nice image but animations would definitely bring it to life even more.
As for the symbols on the reels, there is a multitude of pirate-inspired images from parrots to anchors. You name it! Anything related to pirates appears as one of the symbols in this slot. The wild is also a ghastly pirate with scars all over his face and a massive beard, whilst the scatter is a pirate ship.
The music is certainly inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean with similar melodies throughout. Despite the similarities, you can't deny that it fits the slot well and helps to transport you to a pirate slot.
Gameplay
With the name, you'd expect to find at least one respin mechanic. Thankfully, there is with this slot so it does live up to its name. There is even a mighty Boost feature which was mentioned briefly in the introduction.
This Boost is exactly what you think as it literally boosts wins to larger heights. It can be activated during the free spins round or the base game. Pirate Chest: Hold and Win manages to find the right balance between fun and innovative mechanics with nothing too complicated throughout.
Win Potential
During our playthrough, we definitely noticed the medium to high volatility level which was exciting enough for us. We were even surprised to find the RTP so low at 95.66% as our gameplay did not feel under the average at all.
One aspect that did disappoint us was the maximum win in the slot. You can only win up to 3,000x the stake in this slot which may be low for some high rollers. So if you are looking for massive wins, this may not be the right slot for you.
Our Verdict
Pirate Chest: Hold and Win will surprise you when you start playing it. Despite seeming like every other Hold and Win slot, there is a massive difference with the Boost feature which is definitely appreciated. An ordinary spin will turn into something more with this mechanic.
This will not be the next big slot at slot sites but it will certainly find a legion of loyal players that enjoy it. If you are looking for your next pirate adventure, then perhaps give Pirate Chest: Hold and Win a spin.
