In case you are wondering, Hoot is an owl and is apparently the sharpest shooter in town! This character dives deep into the morsels from the base game and hopefully, you'll see him appear in one of the bonus features where a persistent multiplier could result in some huge wins.
Backseat Gaming often keeps things simple and they have certainly done so today with this new release. Despite the grid slot appearance, you've got a fairly simple mechanic that requires matching symbols to land anywhere on the game area without them needing to touch.
A group of eight matching symbols will fetch you the lowest wins and from these, the royal symbols will do the least damage. Just 0.20x is the minute reward. When this happens with the highest paying symbol, they will pick up a 2x win but if you see over 19 matching symbols, you get to witness something much better – 400x is the top symbol win.
As winning symbols form their valuable clusters, a win is recorded at the top of the game area and the winning symbols disappear. At the same time, you'll see that the multiplier that hangs to the right of the screen will improve and once you reach the end of your winning sequences, the total tumble win is multiplied by the multiplier.
If you're lucky enough to see the sheriff badge symbol, then an extra multiplier is added to the same overall multiplier and this in turn improves your overall payout by up to 10x. That's about it for the base game so watch out for bonus symbols and get ready to move on to the feature round.
Two bonus features exist but they are essentially the same thing. One requires three bonus symbols and the other requires four. These bonus symbols must land during the base game but they don't have to be on a single spin. They stay put as winning combos are removed and you could build up three or four bonus symbols during several wins from the same tumble.

Winning symbols create a payout and improve the overall multiplier. However, this isn't the only way to do it. You can also watch sheriff multiplier symbols land and these will boost the special multiplier that is applied to your final win total.
3 or 4 scatter symbols will trigger 10 free spins and you'll see the scatter pays mechanic and overall feel continue into the feature round. As a major boost, the multiplier continues to grow and remains persistent. If you hit the super version, you'll see multiplier symbols multiply the overall global multiplier.
The base game benefits from the growing multiplier and if you can see a long winning tumble, you could pick up some large payouts. You don't necessarily need to get into the bonus game to see your balance grow. However, my bankroll was delighted after playing 10 free spins as I walked off with nearly 800x in my account. Don't expect that to happen all the time though as the extremely high volatility will make some spins quite tough to swallow.
Despite the overused Wild West theme, this developer managed to keep things feeling a little different and overall light-hearted. The soundtrack is not what you're expecting but it fits perfectly with the general design. Speaking of which, there's a red a hue that indicates that night is falling on this hostile environment and as you probably might imagine, the reels are set into a wooden frame and feature various cowboy-type icons. I like Backseat Gaming's approach to most things and they haven't disappointed me on this occasion with Hoot Shot the Sheriff.
