Don Corleone is back for a second chance to wow us with his slot-spinning prowess! He’s been here before in the original Godfather game and at first glance, not much seems to have changed. However, there are some fun base game modifiers and the free spins bonus is ready and waiting too. The max win is now 10,000x, which is nice to see!
There might be 117,649 paylines available, but don't expect them with every spin. There are six reels and on each of the reels, between two and seven symbols may land. There is also a reel that runs horizontally across the top to help add to your wins.
The lowest payers are the royal symbols and a group of six of these can score you up to 0.25x. Not exactly a payout bonanza, so let's hope that the picture symbols are better. Unfortunately not and even the main man himself will only grab you 4x for a six-of-a-kind win. Other picture symbols include the horse's head, a car, a cigar and some olive oil.
During the base game, there are three modifiers that can do you a huge favour with Max Megaways all of a sudden triggering and bringing the maximum number of win ways to your spin. A wild conversion can convert royal symbols into wilds and it's also possible to see the bonus reel at the top turn into wild symbols as well.
Modifiers continue in the bonus game and this takes the form of a free spins feature. Four bonus symbols will get you 10 spins with one modifier, five get you 10 spins with two modifiers and six award 10 free spins with three modifiers.
During the bonus game, you start with a 1x multiplier and this grows with each winning cascade. If a double multiplier arrives, then you can work out what happens! There's also a +5 multiplier that is occasionally awarded. Converting random royal symbols can still happen and there's a chance of seeing a minimum of 10,000 Megaways with each free spin.
For players outside the UK, you might want to buy directly into the free spins bonuses and these cost 100x, 150x, 200x and 500x.
My 10 free spins with two modifiers were actually pretty epic and after just five spins, I'd already bundled together a 102x payout. Unfortunately, the tally didn't grow much beyond that – throughout the next four spins and I walked away with 140x.
There are 3 modifiers that can mix things up a bit on these reels. The first is Max Megaways, which awards 117,649 paylines for a spin. The second changes royals into wilds and the last is where the bonus reel gets covered in wilds.
The bonus starts with a 1x modifier but this can change to 5x and with each cascade, the multiplier grows. Modifiers are still in play to convert symbols and they may remain in play until the end. You can retrigger this bonus indefinitely!
Taking on the challenge of The Godfather Megaways could result in a 10,000x max win for some fortunate souls. For the rest of us, we'll have to contend with the mediocre payouts that arrive courtesy of these regular paying symbols. I saw my wins push over 100x but it took me a while to get there. Megaways makes the game more engaging than the original and the bonus spins modifiers can help to add to your balance. The volatility is medium and the RTP is a little disappointing at 94.16%.
Very little has changed since the original instalment and once again we find ourselves with a traditional-looking set of reels with royal symbols and stereotypical paraphernalia from this movie series. There’s a little lamp that flickers in the background and light smoke drifting from a cigar, but apart from that, there's not much to write home about. The scene is set in Don Corleone's office and it looks nice enough on desktop and mobile. The full rights to The Godfather music and logos have obviously been obtained so there is an air of authenticity about this slot.
The decision to play this game or the first will come down to whether or not you prefer the modifiers or a chance to play the hold-and-win game from the original. Personally, I feel that Megaways doesn't add an awful lot to this creation and I think I'll probably stick to the first. That said, there’s still a lot of enjoyment waiting for you on these reels so it all comes down to personal preference in the end. Don't forget that the max win has grown in The Godfather Megaways to a very respectable 10,000x.
