To win, you need to land at least 3 matching symbols along 1 of the 50 paylines, starting from the leftmost reel. The less valuable suited card symbols are all worth the same: a 6-of-a-kind will pocket you 0.8x, for example. A 6-of-a-kind made up of one of the high-pay giants and gnomes is worth up to 5x the bet. Land a combo made up of Wilds and you’ll win up to 10x the stake!
That are 3 different types of blocks that randomly appear in both the base game and in Free Spins. The game’s grid is relatively large and there are quite a few features, the overall layout does a good job of keeping everything easy to follow. All the action takes place in a verdant mountain region - think mythical Switzerland. In the background, there’s a castle and the game area itself appears to be some kind of raised drawbridge. The cartoon wizard and his goat that flank the game area, although basic in design, are beautifully rendered, and the animations of the reels and characters are really smooth. The whimsical orchestral music is typical of any fantasy film or series, so it fits perfectly. The sound effects of dropping symbols and winning combinations are very satisfying, too.
The gameplay is almost equally as impressive. The fact that one/three of the game's main features are available in both the base game and free spins is a major plus. These Monster, Synced and Expanding blocks add a lot of tension to proceedings, which makes the game even more fun. It definitely kept me spinning, as I was intrigued to see what type of giant blocks would fall next. One of the game’s possible weak points is the Free Spins round. 5 Scatter symbols felt quite a lot to wait around for, and even when enough did finally fall, it felt rather difficult to increase the round’s multiplier ladder. But that was just my experience. Maybe you’ll have better luck.
