Avatar UX is no stranger to the word ‘pop’. The famous Popwins slots have been around for a few years and whilst this game has a slightly different mechanic, there are glaring similarities. You can still watch your symbols burst into multiple parts and you've also got the benefit of those reel multipliers that could be the star of the show.

Winning symbols need to land from left to right or right to left and create a group of 3 or more to grab a payout. The royal symbols only produce up to 0.75x but the gems are better value with up to 5x available for a five-of-a-kind win. Other symbols include the bonus symbol, which takes you into the free spins round and the bomb symbol which only appears during free spins.
As wins are recorded, the winning symbols disappear and new ones cascade down onto the reels. It's also possible for any symbol to randomly change into a 4-strong symbol to increase the number of win ways.
Wins make the reels extend up to 7 symbols high during the base game and up to 8 symbols high during the bonus game. At the top of each reel is a multiplier and this changes with each spin. The multiplier will increase for each reel on which a winning symbol landed by +1 for each symbol. You only get to feel the benefit of the multiplier when the reel reaches its maximum height to officially unlock the reel.
Landing 3 bonus symbols is enough to score you 5 free spins and a 1x multiplier. However, 4 bonus symbols get you eight spins and a 3x multiplier, whilst 5 symbols get you 12 free spins and a 5x multiplier.

If you can get those reels to stretch to the top and unleash that multiplier figure, then you could see some big wins flying around these unconventional reels. Up to 10,000x is available and surely it's going to be easier getting there if you make it into the bonus game. I wasn't able to hit the top but the multiplier certainly helped me along. The volatility is high and the RTP is 95.99%.
A bright and magical display makes this game pretty easy on the eye and you can witness the whole spectacle on mobile phones as well. The display is crisp and clear, but not particularly different from many other magic-themed slots. My favourite part is the music, which reminded me of a Christmas movie for some reason.
If you don’t like a standard slot payline mechanic, then Gem Pops should provide you with enough variation to witness something a little different. I loved the reel multipliers, which can add huge values to the payouts and the expanding reels and popping symbols can introduce an incredible number of paylines.
