Chicken Night Fever’s game grid starts off at 5x3, thereby giving users 243 ways but due to potentially expanding reels, this can increase the number all the way up to 7,776. Winning combinations consist of matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel.
Jack to Ace are the low-pay symbols. If you manage to match 5 of the same, you can win between 0.6x and 0.8x the bet. I was a fan of Blazing Mammoth XL, so I had high hopes for Chicken Night Fever, the latest offering from PearFiction Studios. At a glance, it seemed to be all but the same game, just with a different setting. Have the developers gone with an if-it’s-not-broke-don’t-fix-it approach, or is there more to it? At the risk of ruffling a few feathers, I pecked a little deeper.
The game’s setting is a big, cartoon chicken coup, although the visuals become a bit more exciting when the disco balls drop, the hens and roosters start boogying and the Free Spins round starts. The characters are equally as big, colourful and cartoonish, and the way they move and react is very 'Loony Tunes'. The lighting effects did well in keeping my eyes glued to the screen, but the electronic country/rock isn’t particularly catchy—at the same time, it shouldn't offend anyone!
Winning combinations seemed to fall quite frequently, as did SwiftHit symbols, so instant jackpots never felt outside the realms of possibility. Similarly, while playing, I triggered the Free Spins round quite a few times, but that is just me. Both the Base and Bonus games are quite basic, although this doesn’t subtract from the fun.
With respect to the max win of 5,000x, no, it’s not going to be enough for you to finally buy that Popeye’s franchise you’ve always wanted, but still a pretty decent payout from this medium volatility game. The RTP is 96.09%.
Apart from a slightly mediocre max win and arguably basic features, Chicken Night Fever’s got a lot to offer. It looks and sounds great and both the Base and Bonus games are basic but fun.
