This five-reel slot features a bunch of standard wins that land across five lines and also five individual bonuses that you can trigger.
The most basic payouts come by the royal symbols with a group of three, four or five matching symbols landing you a reward. For a group of 5 aces, you can expect to see a payout worth 8x! The picture symbols are even better and these record a maximum win of 100x.
These are pretty substantial pants for a base game standard win and if you see five wild symbols, you can even push those rewards up to 200x.
Not much else is happening during the base game but with prizes like those mentioned above, you probably aren't going to complain!
There are five bonus rounds to look forward to and they’re triggered by landing scatter symbols on each of the reels. You have a meter sitting below the pyramid at the bottom of each reel and you'll need to hit five scatter symbols throughout your adventure to trigger each of the rewards. You don't necessarily have to trigger them in turn, so you might get the fifth feature before the 1st, for example.
Five green scatter symbols pick up the first of five features and offer you three initial spins. The triggering scatter symbols stick to the reels and stay put while they patiently await extras. Each time you land a scatter, the three lives are renewed.
5 orange scatter symbols collected in the progress bar at the bottom of the second reel will trigger 5 spins. With each spin that takes place, you are guaranteed to pick up yet another payout!
Five purple scatter symbols arriving during the game will trigger the third feature and you'll notice that each scatter symbol will offer an upgraded multiplier. This continues to grow and whatever multiplier shows in the meter at the bottom of the reel will be your payout when you land that fifth scatter symbol.
Five blue scatter symbols connected in the progress bar at the bottom of the fourth reel will award a respin with up to five wild symbols thrown onto the reels. They stay in place as the respins continue and they'll stay there until a winning combo is recorded.
Five red scatter symbols can make their way down to the meter at the bottom of the fifth reel to trigger the multiplier respins. The reels respin until a win is sent your way and it's multiplied by up to 10x, depending on the scatter symbol value.
Some players may scoff at a low volatility slot with a 1,000x max win but I think these games can sometimes be the best. The base game wins offered by some of the symbols are simply exceptional and each of the five respin features has enough oomph to get your balance moving. I saw some big rewards come my way but don't expect to see these land too frequently as the hit rate is disappointing at just 11%.
Age of Pyramids feels like it was designed 20 years ago and the team over at SYNOT didn't get the memo that this industry has moved on since then. It's a little disappointing but it does hark back to a simpler time where everything was big and bright and everyone was more interested in payouts than they were in creativity and gameplay.
A simple plot with large symbol payouts is sometimes exactly what I'm after and SYNOT has delivered just that with Age of Pyramids. I couldn't believe some of the base game wins that were available and I was also happy with how frequently the bonus respins were triggered. It might have just been my luck on the day but I reckon you should get spinning as soon as you can!
