You’ll need standard 9-A pay symbols along with 90’s objects of note to land in order to grab a win in this game. In ascending order of value, those objects are Rubik’s Cube, Tamagotchi, Gameboy and Ghetto Blaster. Starting from the leftmost reel, winning combinations come in the form of at least 3 matching symbols landing anywhere on at least 3 adjacent reels.
There is also a Top Tracker Reel, which comes in handy when searching for winning combinations. In contrast to the standard reels below, new symbols come in from the right rather than from above. It’s also the only place where you’ll see Cassette Wild symbols drop. These obsolete music media symbols substitute for all except Scatter symbols, and they only apply to the highest value winning combo they’re part of. There are also Mystery symbols, which all become the same random symbol as they drop.
Winning combo symbols disappear and further symbols cascade down (and swing in from the right in the Top Tracker), potentially yielding further wins. This process repeats itself until there are no more wins.
4 or more Bonus Scatter symbols trigger the bonus round, although some players outside the UK can activate this automatically for just 50x their stake. Bear in mind that Scatters don’t fall within the 4-position Top Tracker.
At the start of the bonus game, players are given a choice between taking a guaranteed 8 free spins or gambling them for a possible 12. If you choose to gamble, depending on where the dial stops on the alternating green and red wheel, you’re given the choice to take however many spins you may have won, or spin again to potentially win more free spins. By doing this, players can potentially win up to 30 free spins. Be careful, if the dial lands on Red, you end up with nothing and go back to the base game.
The bonus game works very much like the standard game, but you’ll notice an Unlimited Win Multiplier to the right of the game area. It only starts at 1x, but it’s increased by 1 with every win. Keep an eye on the Top Tracker as it may show Free Spin Scatters, thereby awarding the player with extra Free Spins. If you see 3 Free Spin Scatters, you get 5 extra spins. 4 Free Spin Scatters give you 10.
This top modifier forces random symbols to fall and transform into one and the same regular symbol. This could produce a nice win if everything aligns.
If you think 8 free spins are too few, spin the dial to potentially win 12. Keep spinning for a maximum of 30 if you dare.
Hearing the words ‘mega’ and ‘mania’ said unironically would have you thinking of which decade? That’s right. It's 90’s nostalgia time in Blueprint Gaming’s 90’s Mania Megaways. This slot offers players up to 117,649 winlines plus a max win of 50,000x. Even if you detest bright colours, shoulder pads and sinister moustaches, this still might be worth a few spins.
In a way, it’s hard to judge the quality of the graphics given the early-games-console aesthetic 90’s Mania Megaways is obviously going for. Upon spinning, I was immediately reminded of Sega and Nintendo classics like Outrun, After Burner and Streets of Rage. I was a little disappointed by the choice of pay symbols, especially when you consider all the 90’s memorabilia the developers could have gone for. Ghetto Blasters, Gameboys and the like just come off as a little dull for me. In keeping with the visuals, the musical loop sounds like it’s being played off a cartridge rather than a disc. It’s fun, at first, but I imagine you’ll be turning the sound off after a minute due to its repetitiveness. The sound effects in general are fairly inoffensive, mind.
Even though the game boasts a tonne of win ways, it is quite simple: 3 to 6 of a kind have to appear on 3 adjacent reels going from left to right. The 4-Position Top Tracker above reels 2 to 5 does add an extra dimension, though. The bonus game is more or less the same as the standard one but with a Multiplier to the side, which increases by 1 with each win—potentially lucrative. Upon entering the bonus round, you’re given a chance to gamble to win more free spins, which is a great feature, although it can result in you being immediately returned to the standard game if Lady Luck’s not on your side.
The max win of 50,000x is pretty amazing and the 96% RTP is just about right. There’s always potential for fantastic wins thanks to the 117,649 paylines but this comes with very high volatility.
Anyone looking for stunning visuals and a more complex gaming experience won’t find what they’re looking for here. However, anyone who fancies some of that 8-bit/16-bit early-games-console look with basic but solid features could be on to a winner with 90's Mania Megaways.
