5 Families Review
5 Families is a simple and enjoyable 5-reels, 10 payline slot from Red Tiger Gaming that gives players a taste of the mobster-lifestyle whilst delivering generous winnings that can reach up to 1,000x their initial stake.
The main aim of this shady mafia themed game is to find yourself in the VIP room where all game symbols pay 5x their original value for an unlimited period of time.
Design
Despite being a pretty basic online slot, that doesn't change the fact that 5 Families is a well made, visually pleasing online slot that has oodles of charm and character.
What really sells this slot for us is the slow atmospheric jazz music that plays in the background whilst clouds of cigar smoke make their way around the reels. The symbols are adorned with mafia themed items, these are: Casino chips, liquor, newspapers, suitcases full of money… Of course, highly paid symbols are sharply dressed and highly dangerous gangsters.
Gameplay
5 Families is played across 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 fixed paylines. Wins come about when players match 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols on any of these paylines.
Players can opt to wager between 0.10 and 100.00 meaning that this game is suitable for players at both ends of the spectrum when it comes to bankroll.
There are 9 symbols in total, four or which are low paying symbols whilst five are high paying. All symbols have a VIP room alternative that has more detailed artwork. The highest paying symbol is a Mafioso in a white suit that pays out 200x if 5 land across all reels.
Win Potential
5 Families has a slightly below-average RTP of 95.69%, however, being a medium volatility game means you should still trigger a handful of wins.
The game can be pretty inviting if you manage to come across some of the higher paying symbols whilst in the VIP room, but if we’re being completely honest it’s a big if. The max payout in this game sits at 1,000x your initial stake.
If you’re a seasoned slot player that’s after big wins and a good return on your money then perhaps it’s a good idea to avoid this game altogether.
Our Verdict
There will undoubtedly be complaints about 5 Families not offering enough in the way of bonuses and features, and they would be right to complain as it is a little bit thin where it matters… The lack of wild and scatter symbols is glaring.
However, despite its obvious shortcomings, we can’t just throw the game to the side right away… It’s a beautifully designed slot and incredibly atmospheric to boot.
Red Tiger Gaming is an accomplished development studio and has gotten this game right in many areas, if it were just filled with a little more in the way of bonuses and mechanics then we’d find ourselves playing a decent slot… But without those features it falls flat.
