Santa looks to save the planet from an evil snowman and he seems to have a little assistance from some elves and a gingerbread man. Who knows how this will all play out, but I suspect those wild multipliers will determine who wins big and who doesn't.
Your standard prizes land across 6 reels, and thanks to the Megaways mechanic, you can have up to 7 symbols on each reel. At its peak, there are 117,649 winlines.
The highest-paying symbol is Santa, and rightly so, and a set of 6 of these will bring you a 20x win. The wild symbols are the presents and they substitute for all others.
Each time a win takes place, the winning symbols are removed and new ones join in. If another win appears, then the sequence continues. Wild symbols can hold a multiplier of up to 10x and these apply to any payouts that pass through them – wilds that form the same winning combo will have their values added together.
Outside the UK, you can buy directly into the free spins bonus for 120x, or you'll need to witness a minimum of 3 scatter symbols landing at the same time.
Between 3 and 5 scatter symbols will land you up to 18 free spins, and if one of the scatters is a super free spins symbol, then you get a little added benefit.
The standard game starts with a total multiplier on the screen and each winning combo that contains an x2 wild symbol will add to it. During the super version of the game, the wild symbol is guaranteed to appear with a multiplier of x2 or higher. You can also increase your chances of triggering the bonus game by paying 3x or 7x.
The Megaways mechanic allows for up to 7 symbols to land on each reel, bringing a maximum number of 117,649 paylines. Winning symbols disappear and new ones drop in to potentially land you a sequence of wins from just one initial spin.
Between 3 and 5 scatter symbols will get you up to 18 free spins and the total multiplier is now unlocked. Each winning combo that contains an x2 wild or above will be added to the total multiplier, and this gets applied to your payout. If you play the super version of the game, then all multipliers will be x2 or higher.
It seems like there are countless ways to snatch a win thanks to the Megaways mechanic, but unfortunately, it didn't show me a lot of festive cheer this time. I played relentlessly for quite some time, but to no avail. Those wild symbols can be extremely useful though, as they bring you those multipliers that turn into global figures in the free spins bonus.
The evil snowman is genuinely quite disturbing, but it is a nice contrast when you get to see Santa looking all jolly and happy with his candy stick and his little gingerbread man. It’s an obvious rip-off of Guardians of the Galaxy, but I don't think anyone's going to complain too much. It looks pretty festive on mobile phones as well, and the sleigh bells should help put a spring in your step this Christmas.
Xmas Guardians Megaways is a reasonable entry into the festive slot market this year, but it is by no means the most potent. I like the bonus games multiplier build-up, but the base game is a little relentless. This one gets a fairly average rating from me, but I did enjoy my time with the slot all the same.
