There are 10 regular-paying symbols, starting with low-paying letters and moving up into higher-paying Greek mythology paraphernalia including a harp, decorative pot, shield, helmet and the goddess Athena herself.
You create winning combinations by matching symbols left to right, with the standard game offering 243 paylines, but with the help of the splitting symbol mechanic you can create up to 43,923 ways to win.
On each spin, Matching Mystery symbols may appear on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. You'll get a maximum of 2 Matching Mystery symbols per reel and they will randomly match with the same symbol on the first reel and transform them into double symbols giving you 2 payways per symbol.

Personally, it didn't take me too long to get into the free spins game, and I didn't need to use a boost or buy my way in. Once in the free spins game, I bagged myself some extra spins, but I didn't finish the round with any big wins to write home about.
I was excited to see what Thunderkick did with this Greek mythology slot. The studio is known for making avant-garde games, often with very impressive graphics, and although Ways of Athena is very good-looking, for me, it falls short in terms of innovation.
The graphics are beautifully done, and the backdrop of what I can only assume is the inside of the Parthenon is rather stunning, but in the end, this slot doesn't really stand out from the countless other games in this genre.
I would have liked to have seen a bit more in terms of creativity from Thunderkick, but Ways of Athena remains a very nice-looking slot that fans of this theme will enjoy.
