Spartacus 500 Review
It is great to see Light & Wonder responding to the player's needs by introducing lower-paying games with better chances of seeing the exciting parts of the production. Let's see if anything else differs between this game and the original.
Design
In terms of design, there is very little here to distinguish Spartacus 500 from Spartacus Gladiator of Rome, which came out a few years ago. The main change is that they have done away with the simple baying crowd noises and have, instead, gone for a slightly more epic and fitting soundtrack. The game is perfectly replicated on Android and iOS devices so mobile players can also get in on the action.
Game Play
Most of the excitement during the base game is thanks to the wild symbols that drag themselves up and over to the Colossal Reels to replicate and bring loads more winning possibilities. Making your way to the bonus round isn't exactly a change of scenery but you can look forward to multipliers and Nudging Wids during this part of the game.
Win Potential
The payout of max 500x may not be exhilarating enough for some players, but then this game wasn't aimed at those slots fans in the first place. You get a better chance of hitting the bonus round and with the low volatility, you should be able to enjoy a much longer slot session with regular wins of a small value coming your way. The main kicker with this revamped version is that the RTP has taken a massive hit and has dropped to 92.04%.
Our Verdict
We love that Spartacus 500 is making slots more accessible for everyone but you do have to accept that some stats have suffered as a result. It would have been nice if the game had received an overhaul rather than just a few tweaks, but that’s only our opinion and isn’t a huge criticism. This could be your chance to enjoy a decent slot session without fixating too much on your balance all the time.
Paul spent plenty of time in arcades up and down the UK discovering all of the best fruit machines and watching them grow into the incredible online slots we see today. He still loves the basic format but also has a soft spot for games with big bonus rounds that progress as you play. Immortal Romance is one of his favourite slots of all time.
