Rocky Features

Just like the film series, this slot is full of exciting action. There are 6 types of scatters throughout this slot with Rocky I, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Rocky V and Rocky RB. These symbols can appear in the 4 corner positions of the reel array during the main game.

When all the same 4 scatters land in the 4 corner positions, a feature will be triggered dependent on those scatters such as 4 Rocky RB scatters will trigger the Rocky Balboa Training Feature.

Bonus rounds

4 Rocky I symbols activated Apollo Creed Free Games. 8 free spins will be awarded with sticky wilds appearing at the top of the spinning reels. Sadly this feature cannot be retriggered.

If you happen to land 4 Rocky II scatters instead, then the Heavyweight feature is triggered. 3 picks are awarded and there are 9 gloves to choose from revealing cash or gold coins. Gold coins award extra picks and the round ends when there are no more picks left.

The third bonus round available is triggered by landing 4 Rocky III scatters awarding the Clubber Lang Free Games. 6 free spins will be awarded and a rectangular symbol is guaranteed to reveal all Clubber Lang symbols or Rocky symbols. This special symbol will at least be 2 symbols wide and 2 symbols high.

The fourth bonus round, triggered by 4 Rocky IV scatters, awards the Ivan Drago Hold & Respin mode. 3 respins are awarded with the chance to reset this by landing one or more Gloves. The feature ends when all the positions have been filled or there are no more spins left.

When 4 Rocky V scatters land simultaneously in the 4 corners, the Multi Wheel is triggered. There are 3 reels that spin with a cash wheel, multiplier wheel and respin wheel. Amazingly, there is no limit as to how many times this can be triggered.

Last - but not least - 4 Rocky RB scatters award the Rocky Balboa Training Feature. A stack of prize multipliers appears on the right side with prizes ranging from 1x to 1,000x the stake.

A red box will appear and climb the stack until it stops at a prize. Once it gets to the prize, you'll have the option to push harder for better prizes but run the risk of losing it all.

Rocky - Apollo Creed Free Games

Rocky Review

Since being created in 1976 by Sylvester Stallone, Rocky has become a cultural phenomenon. It's a film that is still quoted today and spawned multiple sequels and spin-offs including Creed. There are even rumours of a seventh Rocky film and a potential origin film about Ivan Drago.

It's safe to say that the franchise is even stronger today than it was back when it originally came out. Everyone knows of the film franchise which is exactly why Rare Stone obtained the rights to create an online slot all about this series.

Just like the films, the Rocky slot follows the boxing career of the working-class Italian-American Rocky Balboa (played by Sylvester Stallone). Throughout this slot, you'll recognise moments from all six of the films with specific features relating to them.

From free spins to respins, this slot has it all. Even if you aren't a fan of the Rocky films, you'll certainly be impressed by the sheer amount of features on display that will be able to provide you with so much entertainment. This is a slot for both keen players and fans of the movie franchise.

Design

When you think of impressive branded slots with unique designs, you immediately think of innovative designs such as Alice Cooper and the Tome of Madness and Popeye vs Brutus. Rare Stone's Rocky slot is nowhere near as creative as these games but the slot does pay tribute to the films.

The background of the base game features the iconic shot of Rocky standing at the top of the steps (now known as Rocky Steps). It's a grainy image that has a filter which makes the image look like a rolling movie.

During the bonus rounds, there are similar stills from the film based around certain characters such as Apollo Creed. Alongside this, there are loads of dialogue from the film with famous lines from characters which adds to the experience even more.

As for the symbols on the reels, you'll find cartoon drawings of all the greatest characters from the series including Apollo Creed, Ivan Drago, Clubber Lang, Rocky and Butkus the dog.

One thing that we were a little disappointed with was the lack of official music from the film but we suspect that the developers could not get the rights to them. Despite this, there is quite a good musical score that manages to deliver the right tone for the slot.

Gameplay

It's a safe assumption that most Rare Stone slots do not feature interesting mechanics and often only have one bonus round. Thankfully, this is not the case with the Rocky slot as there are six different bonus rounds with each one feeling distinctly different.

The beauty of this slot is that the gameplay is not too complicated either. All you really need to do is line up four scatters in each corner and then spin to see what the result is. The only downside is that it feels like you are just waiting for the bonus round to start.

Win Potential

Sadly, we could not find the official statistics for this slot from the developer but we managed to find most of the relevant details from the game itself. The RTP is at 95.91% which is pretty decent for a branded slot - so we weren't too disappointed with this figure.

As for the maximum win, we could not find the official figure but we found our maximum win for this slot was 1,000x the stake. Despite this not being as high as other online slots, we were certainly satisfied with the wins that we achieved.

Our Verdict

This slot appeared out of nowhere for us as we did not see it on any roadmap. Despite this, we were grateful to find the slot as it's absolutely incredible and does the Rocky film franchise justice.

The Rocky slot is not just a delight for fans of the series but also slot enthusiasts in general as there is so much to trigger throughout the gameplay. Go the distance with Rare Stone's Rocky slot.

A history of the Rocky film franchise

The name Rocky is known across the world. In 1976, the world was introduced to this iconic film series and character created by Sylvester Stallone. That's right! Stallone did not just play the titular character but he also created him as well.

As Rare Stone prepares to release the upcoming slot about the film franchise called Rocky, we decided it would be helpful to potential players to give a quick recap of the film franchise and what you can expect to see in the slot.

Humble beginnings

Stallone wrote the screenplay for Rocky in just three and a half days after watching the championship match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner. Henry Winkler, known as Fonzie in Happy Days, used his status as a star to convince ABC to purchase the script. Sadly, the executives wanted a new writer to change the script and Stallone managed to get the rights back to his script.

It was a tough ride for Stallone to get Rocky made in the way he wanted as he knew the role of Rocky Balboa should be played by himself. United Artists liked the script but wanted big stars such as Robert Redford, Ryan O'Neal, Burt Reynolds, or James Caan to play the role.

Thankfully, producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff decided to take on the film but with a low budget. Because of this low budget, Stallone even cast members of his family to play minor roles. The film ended up being a critical and commercial success leading to a massive franchise.

The first Rocky film follows an uneducated and small-time club fighter, named Rocky, who gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot at fighting the world heavyweight championship Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers).

Hitting the big time!

Rocky II, Rocky III and Rocky IV were written and directed by Sylvester Stallone with each film being a commercial success. Each of these films follows a similar pattern to the first film with Rocky still being classed as an underdog and having to fight established fighters.

In Rocky II, he fights Apollo Creed again, whilst in Rocky III and Rocky IV he fights Clubber Lang (played by Mr T) and Ivan Drago (played by Dolph Lundgren) respectively. Audiences were still invested in the Rocky series and wanted to see the underdog come out on top.

A shake-up in the format

Rocky V follows the aftermath of the Drago fight with Rocky Balboa being diagnosed with brain damage. It's from this illness that he is forced to retire from the ring. However, that does not stop him from leaving the boxing world.

He begins to train Tommy Gunn (played by Tommy Morrison) but ends up having a tumultuous relationship with the boxer. The film focuses on Rocky as a mentor rather than a fighter - but Balboa still manages to knock out Tommy when he deserves it.

The latest film in the series is Rocky Balboa which follows the boxer at a dark time in his life when his wife Adrian has passed away and he has no relationship with his son. He soon realises that the only thing he's good at is fighting and gets back in the ring for one more fight.

A new boxer emerges

Following the canon Rocky films, a new series began with Creed in 2015. This film follows the illegitimate son of the late former heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, Adonis "Donnie" Johnson (played by Michael B. Jordan). He tracks down Rocky Balboa and asks him to be his trainer.

This film even led to its own trilogy with three films with Jordan as the star throughout. With the success of the Creed series, there have been talks about a seventh Rocky film which was announced by Stallone at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019.

Whether there is a seventh film or not, the Rocky film franchise is iconic and showcases the power of training and motivation. Rocky Balboa is an underdog that you cannot help but root for. Step into the footsteps of Rocky in Rare Stone's Rocky slot.
