The 6x4 game board in Raging Rex 3 offers up wins when matching symbols land on adjacent reels. You will need a minimum of 3 matching symbols to trigger a win with the 6 fossil symbols producing the smallest wins and the 4 dinosaurs producing the biggest payouts. 6 hatchling symbols will offer a 6x win. All of this means that there are 4,096 ways to win a prize.
For bigger wins and much more action, you will need the REX symbol to appear more often than not. This is a Wild symbol that can stack 4 high and there are also Hatchling symbols that act as Wilds as well.
The real magic happens when the stacked REX symbol lands completely in view and triggers a set of respins. This symbol and any other Hatchling symbols will step one place to the left until they finally reach the first reel. You can get up to 5 respins if the stacked symbol appears first on the 6th reel.
You can trigger free spins by landing 3, 4, 5 or 6 Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. After that, you have a choice of 3 features that will determine the format of your bonus play.
Up first is Feeding Frenzy and if you select this, your REX stack remains sticky somewhere on the reels but can move around during your free spins. You also get a hunting target selected from one of the Dinosaur symbols and whenever REX finds himself landing on or moving across this hunting target, it gets eaten up. 6 of these will bring an x1 multiplier that is calculated by any wins and will continue to grow until the end of the bonus. The maximum number of spins with this feature is 13.
Your second bonus choice goes by the name of Hatchling Mania and at this point, hatchlings act in a very similar way to the stacked REX symbol in the first bonus game. They can also have x2 or x3 Multipliers attached to them.
Finally, you have the Survival game with 3 lives presented from the start. Dinosaur symbols can land anywhere on the reels and will replenish your three lives. Consequently, those dinosaurs that have been used to refill your lives are replaced by Sticky Bone symbols and REX will take hold of all of their values. Bone symbols help to fill the meter and this brings upgraded values to any Dinosaur symbols that land.
When the REX stack is completely in view, a respin feature is triggered. REX now take its Wild symbol power on a walk towards the first reel along with any Hatchling symbols.
Choosing this bonus allows your stack of REX symbols to move around and create better wins. You can also collect the hunting targets to add Multipliers where possible.
Instead of REX stacks, you can play with Wild Hatching symbols that also move around to try and create a win. These can bring Multipliers up to x3 in value.
Choose this bonus to play a respin game and mix up the fun a little. Dinosaur symbols refill your spin total and bring cash values that are collected by REX.
In many ways, this slot is very similar to Raging Rex 2 and this also rings true with the feature selection and base game modifiers. The only real difference between the two games is that you have a more varied choice of bonus rounds with this latest release thanks to the addition of the Survival Game, which is more akin to a respins bonus than a free spins round. Let's see if anything else separates this third instalment from its predecessors.
If you were looking for something completely different from the other games in this trilogy, then you may be slightly disappointed to hear that the design is almost identical. That said, this is pretty standard for a slot series so we can't expect any crazy tangents.
The symbol set is very similar to those that have gone before it and the jungle setting only differs slightly with the type of trees that sway in the background now. Oh, and we also have some dragonflies to keep us company as well.
The soundtrack feels a little less ‘Goonies adventure’ as it did previously and now has a far more ominous undertone. But don’t worry, you still get those incredible screeches when REX appears.
As with other games in this trilogy, players spend most of the time waiting for REX to turn up in his entirety to wreak havoc with Wild symbol action. The lack of other modifiers while waiting for this to happen does bug me a little and I thought there might have been a couple of add-ons to look forward to.
The Free Spins Bonus is just as exciting as before, so I'm pleased to say that making your way to this coveted part of the production will give you just as much of a kick as it always has. As I said before, the Survival game really does help mix things up a bit.
The original Raging Rex slot was given a phenomenal max win boost from 5,000x to 30,000x as this game progressed through the first two releases. You might assume that part 3 would increase this yet again but unfortunately, it wasn't to be. So a 30,000x top payout it is and the RTP stays at 96.20 as well. The medium/high volatility is another stat that hasn’t budged.
For me, it's important for any slot release to shine brightly on its own merits rather than relying on an exact model that has been used before. But that’s not always the case, and Raging REX 3 has fallen into the same trap. While that does irk me a little, I can’t deny that this is a fun slot with big payout potential and some subtle gameplay variations make it a top choice for anyone looking for a new dinos-slot adventure!
