Push Gaming claims to have created Olympus Unleashed for slot players who are looking for something new. That's no mean feat with many developers finding it difficult to push the boundaries and create new features and mechanics at present. I'm definitely prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt and see how these Power Up symbols could trigger something fabulous and boost my wins as I spin these reels.
Shifts, upgrades, surrounds and more are ready to mess with your head and your reels! You can pick up wins with matching combos of 3, 4 or 5 symbols and they must conform to 50 standard paylines.
The royal symbols will grab you a prize worth up to 1x and the picture symbols will push of those limits all the way up to 20x. Wild symbols substitute for regular paying symbols and they can land with a multiplier attached to them. It's not unheard of to get x5 applied to any wins that use these special symbols. Incidentally, the wild symbol also produces the highest payout worth between 2x and 20x.
Power Up symbols are the main attraction and they're available during the base game and Unleashed feature. A position that contains one of these symbols will spin through the different available features and during the base game, it might land on expand, surround or upgrade.
The expand feature makes high-paying symbols spin inside the expand symbol and one will be selected. This transforms other symbols into the high paying symbol where the expand symbols appear! It sounds far more complicated than it really is.
The surround feature makes high-paying symbols spin through their individual position and one is selected yet again. All surrounding unoccupied positions then get turned into the high-paying symbol. The upgrade feature sees the high-paying symbol spin again and simply upgrades the selected high-payer.
Rather than a separate free spins bonus, you can look forward to the Unleashed feature, which brings other modifiers that weren't available in the base game. With five high-paying symbols landing or the expansion symbol landing on the leftmost reel, this feature is triggered.
High-paying symbols that activate the feature along with other wild symbols stay put for the duration. High-paying symbols get locked in place as well and empty symbols spin through in an attempt to land high-paying symbols, wild symbols, Power Up symbols or blanks.
As they land, the symbols stay in place and you renew your three spins. If you don't see a special symbol for three spins, it's game over and you pick up the cash values.
The extras that you can grab that aren’t available in the base game are shift symbols and additional rows. Shift symbols move others to the left and the additional rows, quite predictably, add up to three extra rows during the feature.
You can see high-paying symbols produce big wins thanks to their modifying powers during both the base game and bonus round. During the base game, you can see expand, surround and upgrades to help boost your wins.
If 5 high-paying symbols land or you see the expansion symbol on the first reel, then you'll unlock the possibility to enjoy another two modifiers on top of the other Power Ups from the base game. The shift modifier can move others to the left-hand reel to help create wins and you might see extra rows as well.
Don't be put off by the rather modest 2,340x max win. I think it's refreshing when a developer keeps it real! I can't imagine you're going to get close to that during the base game but there are still some 5x multipliers available and enough of these could do some damage to the Olympus coffers.
The addition of extra rows and moving high-paying symbols over to the left will hopefully do you some favours as you enter the bonus round but it isn't an essential part of the game by any means. The volatility is low/medium as well, so you can expect to see lots of small wins flying around.
You've got to hand it to Push Gaming for turning this theme completely on its head. Instead of floating gracefully through the clouds and across the mountain tops, this bunch finds themselves fighting it out in a futuristic arena. Purple columns have replaced the marble ones and this amphitheater has a crazy neon touch. The music is frenzied and the battle is ready to begin on desktop, laptop and mobile phone. If you can imagine what Tony Stark might have created if he were left in charge of developing a new gladiatorial battle, you might have an idea about what you're going to face.
Olympus Unleashed is a crazy and exciting new concept in terms of theme delivery and when it comes to features. I like how Push Gaming goes against the grain a little with the bonus game and that always scores extra points from me. It's not electrifying but it is different and strangely simple in its approach and that's the reason why we rated Razor Returns so highly as well. This slot is going to get a pretty good report too!
