Kingdom of the Dead Review
What’s not to love about an Egyptian-themed slot? Ok, so they’ve been done to death and many can produce slightly lacklustre results, but they can also produce some big wins and Kingdom of the Dead is no exception.
Does this latest slot from Pragmatic Play stumble over every loose pebble on its journey through the pyramid complex or does it grab the loot with both hands and make off into the night to create yet another international argument over who should keep the artefacts? Here’s what our time with this game discovered.
Design
With all of the frills and glistening trinkets of the Luxor Hotel, Kingdom of the Dead is bold and highly polished with raining fire above the reels and grand columns supporting the reels. The main protagonist is a rugged-looking chap who looks up to the challenge and he’ll also accompany you through mobile play as well.
The game’s soundtrack is reasonable enough but fairly forgettable at the same time. Most players aren’t too critical of a slot’s audio effects, and that’s just as well really!
Game Play
The base game offers a slightly predictable trip from standard spins to free spins and back again without much in the way of modifying fun to keep you alert. While this isn’t essential, it could mean that some fans switch over to another game sooner than the developer might have liked.
Choosing your wagers is simple enough and can be done by adjusting the coin amounts as well as the overall bet too, so keeping to an exact budget is easy to do. The only other decision you’ll need to make is whether to take a fixed mystery symbol or a random one during the free spins round.
Win Potential
Some lucky players will eventually make their way to the top 10,000x payout but keep your eyes fixed on the fun factor rather than the winning potential as it is a long shot. High volatility makes a game like this a little hostile for a while as you could hit an unforgiving run of spins, but big payouts can arrive at any moment.
Our Verdict
So did Pragmatic Play pull it off and wow us with something extraordinary this time? Not exactly, unfortunately. You will have seen it all before, but that feeling of familiarity might be what you’re after and a 10,000x payout certainly doesn’t hurt either.
