Proving that making a deal with the devil can be fun is Light & Wonder with their latest slot release. A respins bonus, free spins and a Deal or No Deal rip-off are the fabulous features to look forward to and let me tell you, there's never a dull moment once you get past the base game.
20 paylines are all you have and they're not in the most standard patterns either. Sometimes you think you've hit a win but you just haven't! Royal symbols make up the lowest payers with very reasonable rewards of up to 2x for a group of five. Picture symbols can produce wins of up to 25x. Wild symbols will do the same.
Getting out of the base game requires some pentagram coin symbols or bonus symbols. If you land six of the coins, it triggers the respins game and one of the positions is now a hot zone. If a coin lands on this zone, all positions around it get a multiplier value.
You get three spins, but go three spins without landing a coin and it's game over. Each coin resets your tally and the devil can mess around with the game area throughout the bonus. You might get coin values doubled and you could even see a max win of 500x land on the grid. Some other modifiers to point out – the devil can switch some of the reel positions, add random wilds or even trigger the Hell of a Deal bonus game. This all occurs during the base game or free spins.
Three bonus symbols get you a Hell of a Deal with the devil deciding if you're going to play for cash, free spins or both. You choose a box and then you get to eliminate a few more as each round goes by.
With each round, the devil makes you a deal and you need to decide if you're going to take it or not. It took me a good couple of hundred spins to get things going but when the game came to life, I saw the Hell of a Deal bonus twice, triggered the respins bonus three times and played some free spins as well.
The biggest anticlimax of my slot-reviewing career so far occurred as I ended the Hell of a Deal bonus. Having gone through the process of excitedly choosing my boxes and accepting a deal towards the end, I received my rewards but never actually found out what was in my box! Massive fail!
Six or more pentagram symbols will trigger this game and you're in for a respin treat. One reel position is chosen as The Hot Zone and if a pentagram lands here then everything around that symbol gets multiplied. Go three spins without a special symbol and the game ends. The devil can work his magic and even hand out the max win coin during the bonus.
When he sees fit, the devil can switch reels, add random wilds and even produce three bonus symbols to trigger the bonus game. The same can occur in both the base game and the free spins bonus.
If the devil awards free spins then you'll grab a number of spins equal to the prize he awards you. The devil can collect cash values from pentagram symbols if less than 6 are in view. You can still trigger the respin bonus and the max win coin is available.
Three bonus symbols start you off and the devil decides if you're getting free spins, cash or a mixture of the two. 22 boxes are available and you choose one to play with. During the six rounds, you choose other boxes to get rid of and the devil makes you an offer - a little bit like Deal or No Deal but slightly hotter.
It's always strange when a game doesn't play as the stats suggest. I would have thought that the max win could be quite big as the potential for large multipliers is there. However, only 500x is available and then we move on to the volatility.
Officially, this game has a low volatility but it certainly felt like high volatility to me. I went hundreds of spins without much of a return and then all of a sudden things went crazy. The RTP is 96%.
The game didn't really grab me as it loaded up but within a few spins, I started to love everything on display. The big red devil at the top of the screen is waiting to pounce and add modifiers, and the fiery lanterns add a special glow.
A bit of roaring twenties trumpet keeps things swinging and the Kubrick-esque 1-point perspective hallway didn't go unnoticed. It’s a simple yet fantastic effort that looks amazing on desktop and mobile.
Despite the stats adding a little confusion to proceedings, everything else about this game is very good. I would have preferred not to go hundreds of spins before seeing the bonus game but believe me, it is worth the wait.
It’s time to make a deal and accept a few spins.
