Fishin' For Wins Review
Every slot developer is hoping to cash in on the success of the Big Bass Bonanza slots, and now it’s the turn of Skywind.
Judging by the bonus features, there should be plenty of opportunities to catch some fish and help yourself to their accompanying cash prizes.
Design
Fishin’ For Wins has a similar concept to the Big Bass Bonanza games from Pragmatic Play, but there’s no mistaking that this is from an entirely different developer. And the cash collection feature just happens to be something that fits in perfectly with the fishing theme, but it definitely hasn’t been used quite like this before!
There’s a cartoon style to the graphics and a jaunty theme tune which has the potential to become irritating after a while. But you probably won’t mind too much about that if you keep reeling in those fish!
Gameplay
The game has been designed on mobile-first principles, making it easy to play on smartphones and tablets, as well as on larger screens. Line up three or more symbols from left to right across one or more of the paylines to win a cash prize.
But that changes when you land three Bonus fish anywhere in view. This is the signal for the fisherman to catch every one of the fish swimming alongside the reels – awarding you their combined values.
Land 3, 4 or 5 Scatters to receive 5, 10 and 15 free spins respectively. Throughout the bonus round, Gold Fish symbols become active. Land 3 with a single spin and you’ll win the maximum value of every fish surrounding the reels. That’s a win of up to 250x your bet, after which you’ll be returned to the free spins bonus round. The Gold Fish bonus can’t be retriggered.
Win Potential
Fishin’ For Wins offers low-value playing card symbols, backed up by higher returns from an anchor, a flask of tea, a float and a cheerful worm. The top-paying symbol is the game’s logo, returning 200x your bet for five of a kind on a payline.
But it’s the fish collection feature that offers the best potential returns, according to whether you land the Bonus fish during the base game or the free spins feature. The best returns are reserved for Gold Fish bonus wins during the free spins, with the following maximum payouts:
- Fish collection during the base game: 149x
- Fish collection during free spins: 179x
- Gold Fish collection: 250x
Our Verdict
You’re not going to win any life-changing sums of money playing Fishin’ For Wins, but that’s not the point. This is a game that’s good fun to play because of the way it’s taken a typical cash collection feature and given it a new twist.
Having the bet multiplier fish on the outside of the reels makes the game feel part slot, part aquarium. The overall effect is quite soothing – although possibly enjoyed with the sound muted, or at least turned down! Best of all, unlike real-life fishing, you don’t ever have to get cold or wet while you’re playing Fishin’ For Wins, and that sounds good to us!
