Double Lucky Mushrooms DoubleMax Review
It sounds as though it should be an oriental slot, but rest assured that Double Lucky Mushrooms DoubleMax is as Irish as they come. It might have been more technically accurate to call it Double Lucky Toadstools though, as the fungi in question are definitely the non-edible variety!
Design
All the usual images you’d expect to see featured on an Irish-themed slot are present and correct, including a rainbow. There’s a lucky clover, pots of gold and even a leprechaun’s hat – although the leprechaun himself is nowhere to be seen.
There’s an enthusiastic soundtrack to accompany gameplay, which is packed with tin whistles and accordion music. It has the potential to become extremely annoying after a while, but the mute button is easily accessible, so it’s not too much of an issue.
Gameplay
There are two Wild substitute symbols, although neither of them feature on the paytable, so they can’t generate wins on their own. The pot of gold acts in the normal way, whereas the four-leaf clover Wild expands to fill the entire reel, increasing the possibility of it featuring in one or more wins.
Spin up 3, 4 or 5 Lady Luck Scatters to be awarded 8, 12 or 16 free spins respectively. But you’ll now have the chance to gamble for the chance to increase your free spins, although it’s purely optional.
Take a spin of the wheel to land the pointer in the green section, and receive additional spins. Land the pointer in the red section and the free spin bonus disappears completely, so be sure to weigh up the risks before trying for more.
Mushroom symbols come with a prize value attached, which is added to your win total. But if mushrooms land at the same time Lady Luck appears on reel 5, the value of your current win increases accordingly. Lady Luck’s multiplier increases with each appearance, so this is where the potential arises for the big-money payouts.
Win Potential
Spinning up five-of-a-kind Jacks or Queens pays out 5x your stake, increasing up to 8x for Kings and Aces. The leprechaun’s hat pays up to 10x, with the double mushrooms paying up to 12x, and the game’s logo topping the paytable with a max payout of 25x.
The free spins bonus round is where the biggest prizes will be found, but you’ll need to keep in mind that this is a high-volatility game with an RTP that comes in at less than 96%. So although there’s potential for that 19,999x max payout, only a very few players will be lucky enough to reach it.
In some jurisdictions, it’s possible to Buy the Bonus for 65x your current bet. This option isn’t available in the UK, but where it is available, it should be approached with caution, a there’s no guarantee you’ll win your stake back. Buying the Bonus will activate either the Wishing Well Bonus or the Free Spins Bonus, but you don’t get to choose which one will land.
Our Verdict
Some interesting game mechanics help to raise Double Lucky Mushrooms DoubleMax above the average – particularly that increasing multiplier in the free spins bonus round. We really liked the Wishing Well Bonus too, which can pay out some generous cash awards from time to time.
IF we’re being picky, we’d say the graphics are a bit basic. And we definitely weren’t fans of the soundtrack, but that’s easily sorted with the help of the mute button. What we did like was the game’s winning potential, so if you enjoy playing Irish-themed games, this is one that’s definitely worth taking for a spin.
