Day of Dead Review
It's unfortunate that the Mexican slot theme has become so oversaturated with many trying to capitalise on the Day of the Dead festival. Whilst, Pragmatic Play have jumped on this bandwagon with Day of Dead, the slot itself is absolutely brilliant.
Day of Dead is a Mexican slot that plays on 5-reels with 20 paylines - but features innovative features and stunning visuals that will keep you intrigued. With Walking Wilds and Free Respin, you'll be finding handsome rewards in no time!
Design
The slot is set in a dark graveyard but it's illuminated by various candles and bright colours bringing it to life. On the screen, there are various ashes that spread across the screen which is just a nice little detail.
As for the symbols on the reels, they are cartoonish but also don't look too childish. There are various humans with skull makeup along with maracas and other items that you associate with Mexican culture. All the symbols are vibrant but have a sinister edge to them - which is what you'd expect from a Day of the Dead slot.
In terms of music, there's a soft mariachi score that mixes well with ambient spooky noises to create the slot. During free spins, it becomes more intense with more instruments and the background changes to a Mexican street filled with fireworks. The free spins round is definitely more intense and worth it for the visuals spectacle.
Gameplay
The premise of this slot is quite simple with 5-reels playing on 20 paylines. There aren't a huge amount of features, but they contain enough to make them worthwhile.
Like most Pragmatic Play slots, all the menus are at the bottom of the screen. The spin button is highlighted by a crown on top and you can find the bet level and autospin just to either side of it.
Win Potential
Day of Dead is a high volatility slot that features a decent RTP of 96.49%. The maximum win for this slot is 4,500x your stake, which isn't a huge amount but can deliver some amazing wins with higher bets.
Of course, it's worth noting the high volatility level as you'll find that wins are less frequent but high when they do. During our playthrough, we were incredibly lucky and managed to trigger the Free Respin feature a fair few times with excellent wins - but that was our experience and yours could be different.
Our Verdict
Honestly, we were pleasantly surprised with Day of Dead as it was thoroughly entertaining. The design was spectacular and the gameplay was enthralling. Amazingly, we experienced amazing wins and managed to trigger the feature multiple times.
If you want a Mexican slot that is delightful to play and is absolutely charming - then check out Day of Dead.
