Christmas Luck Review
As we head to the end of the year, the annual onslaught of Christmas-themed slots is well underway. And as we pick through a selection of the usual festive titles, Christmas Luck from Skywind sticks out as a truly original game.
When you launch the Christmas Luck game, you might be very surprised to find there is just 1 reel in play. But don’t just write this game off! Give it a few minutes of play, and we're pretty sure that you will be charmed by this unique and surprisingly fun Christmassy slot.
And with 500x up for grabs, as well as the brimming Cash Pot available to claim at any time, Christmas Luck is not only fun, but it also has the potential to bring you some great wins.
Design
Of course, there are no prizes for guessing that Christmas Luck is a Christmas-themed game! As such, the graphics and animations are suitably festive, jolly and Pixar movie-esque.
But it has to be said, with the soft snowfall and warm lights adorning the pretty log houses that sit behind the game board, and the cute sweets and other symbols, the designers have done an exceptionally good job of creating a cute, quirky and visually pleasing game.
When it comes to sounds, we expected a big production, jingly Christmas soundtrack, so we were slightly disappointed by what is pretty much an entire lack of music. And the sound effects that are on offer would be far better suited to a horror movie about an old cabin in the woods than a festive slot.
A very strange choice by Skywind indeed. That said, even the sounds of howling winds and possibly an impending murderous psycho kicking in your door cannot take away from the Christmassy feel of this game. And that is quite an accomplishment!
Gameplay
When we saw that this game comes with just 1 reel, we assumed this was a mistake. How can a slot have just 1 reel? But once you throw out the rule book of what slot gaming usually is, you'll find that Christmas Luck is actually extremely fun and a lot more dynamic than it looks at first glance. It's extremely similar to Skywind's Joker's Luck which contains the Cash Pot mechanic.
Your job is to spin the reel and land sweet symbols. These are then added to your Prize Towers, along with the help of some special symbols including the wild Santa Claus and different boxes.
But where this game gets interesting is with the addition of the wicked Joker elf. His aim is to steal money out of your Cash Pot, and finding his mean little face on the reel means instant heartbreak!
While Christmas Luck does have a free games function, the truth is that the base game is far more exciting than this bonus round. All the free games function gives you is 3 free spins, which are over in under 3 seconds.
It's great that the elf cannot appear during these free spins, but blink and you will miss this feature. And we actually feel that the bonus game adds nothing to the overall enjoyment of this slot.
Win Potential
The Christmas Luck game gives you some great winning potential. Even though a top prize of 500x may not seem as generous as some other slots on the market, the fact is that the top prize is not the only thing on offer.
Don't forget, you can redeem everything that is in the Cash Pot whenever you want. So add together lots of small wins, plus the 500x top prize, and suddenly this game is potentially a lot more lucrative.
The game also comes with a slightly above-average RTP of 96.50%. So mix that in with high volatility and you have a game that may not pay out often, but when it does the spoils could equal a pretty good Christmas!
Our Verdict
In all honesty, we enjoyed this game a lot more than we thought we would. Christmas Luck is a fun and festive take on traditional slot gaming, and the addition of the naughty elf potentially running away with your prizes adds to the excitement and uniqueness of this game.
We love the Cash Pot, Prize Towers and other added features. And with lots of special symbols to spice up proceedings, Christmas Luck from Skywind is a fun-filled slot that will get you in the mood for the festive season.
