For this game to live up to its name, players will need to see some big jackpot prizes enter the fray. This can happen during the Hold & Win bonus and to get there, you need some special coins. Let's take a look at how to get your eager hands on these valuable symbols.
There are five reels and 25 paylines available and across these, you can win prizes worth up to 250x. That's not a bad start, is it? The royal symbols get you up to 15x with a matching group of five aces and the top payout is four wild bears.
Scatter symbols will also pay you 40x for a group of three and these trigger the free spins bonus. There's not much else to mention in the base game so let's move straight on to the free spins round.
As we've seen, three scatter symbols get you a bonus game trigger and 8 free spins are your reward. You can pick up more free spins as you go and you do this by landing extra free spins symbols.
The royal symbols disappear as you're playing your free spins so hopefully your wins should be higher than usual.
There's another bonus game to get excited about and this one goes by the name Hold & Win. You may be familiar with the respin process but let me explain just in case you're not.
You start with three respins in your kitty and each time you fail to land a special symbol during a spin, your respins diminish. If you go three spins without seeing a special symbol, it's game over. Continue to land special symbols and you carry on adding to your prize total.
The special symbols are regular coins which present multipliers of your bet amount and jackpot symbols, which can pay up to 10,000x. If you hit the Mega prize, your game will finish there and then.
You’ll notice that the four top rows on the grid, which is now expanded to 5x8, are locked and to unlock them, you'll need 10 special symbols to hit the grid. The next row requires 15, the one after that 20 and finally 25 to completely unlock the grid.
If you completely unlock the grid with 30 special bonus symbols in the active area, you get an extra prize and this is the one that shuffles throughout the feature.
Using the ante bet during the base game will cost you an extra 25% on top of your stake and will increase your chances of triggering one of the bonus games. Incidentally, you can up the ante in order to land free spins or the Hold & Win game.
In some jurisdictions outside the UK, it may be possible to buy your way directly into the bonus games.
Special symbols are coins which represent instant wins and instant jackpot prizes. The game area expands to 5x8 and you need to unlock the top four rows by landing special symbols. Each new special symbol that lands will also renew your three respins.
To grab eight free spins, you need three special scatter symbols to appear on the central reels. You can pick up extra free spins while you play and you have the added benefit of royal symbols being removed from the reels.
Some decent win potential is on offer throughout the base game with standard payouts and wild symbols providing decent returns. I was able to keep my balance well above water as I span the reels.
Making my way into the Hold & Win game, it became obvious that the 10,000x max win wasn't out of the question. I only picked up just over 200x but other players will probably fare much better. The RTP is a little below the standard at 95% and the volatility rating is high.
I'm not entirely sure what developer Iron Dog was going for with this game as it seems to have a bit of a split personality complex. If you didn't see the animals on the reels, you'd be convinced that this is a lucky Irish game but landing eagles and bears certainly doesn't fit with that theme. It's an odd mix!
Personal opinion aside, the graphics are crisp and there are some basic animations that look just fine on smaller mobile screens as well.
It's a simple case of aiming high and not paying too much attention to your surroundings in Apex Strike Lucky Cache. Players will be firmly fixed on the bonus games and jackpot prizes and I can't really blame them!
