9 Masks of Fire HyperSpins Review
9 Masks of Fire™ HyperSpins™ is a sequel to the insanely popular slot 9 Masks of Fire, created by Gameburger Studios, an independent studio that supplies exclusive online gaming content to Microgaming. This 5-reel, 20 payline slot is still all about landing the Masks of Fire, which see players win fixed payouts based on their stake. This differs from the original as it introduces HyperSpins, a new feature that allows players to respin any reel they like as many times as they like in order to create a winning payline, trigger free spins or add more Masks of Fire to the reels.
9 Masks of Fire HyperSpins has a strong African influence, with masks, tribal patterns and a spear and shield symbol appearing in this slot. However, the majority of the game symbols are fruit-machine themed, which did throw us off slightly at first.
Symbols include cherries, a bar symbol, a bell, a dollar sign, 7, 77 and 777. This slot's wild special is a diamond whilst the free spin scatter symbol is a shield with two spears crossing over it.
The one thing we genuinely love about this slot is the soundtrack, admittedly it's only one song looped on repeat, but you truly have to believe us when we say it's catchy (especially when you trigger a big win or bonus feature), we honestly found ourselves tapping along to the rhythm throughout the duration of our playtest... It's a serious vibe!
As is the case with the original 9 Masks of Fire slot, players are tasked with landing Masks of Fire that award fixed payouts that are highlighted on a prize ladder to the left of the game reels. Players can also respin any reel they like thanks to the new HyperSpins feature, which gives players the opportunity to create winning paylines or trigger features and big wins.
In terms of navigating the slot in general, all of the buttons needed to play this slot can be found along the bottom of the game screen. This includes a hamburger menu that opens up the paytable and game rules, the stake selection tool, a max bet button, play button and autoplay button.
This medium volatility slot has an RTP of 96.24% and can see players win a maximum of 2,000x their stake, which is unfortunately quite low. Over the course of a few hundred spins we found ourselves landing 5 Masks of Fire a handful of times, but never any more than that. We also found it pretty difficult to trigger the free spins bonus feature... But thankfully the HyperSpin feature helped us there eventually.
On one hand, we enjoyed playing 9 Masks of Fire HyperSpins, the HyerSpins feature gave us the ability to take a chance at turning those near-misses into winning spins... On the other hand, we seldom triggered any seriously big wins or free spins feature this way. Regardless of whether it was bad luck, we were frustrated by the fact that it took so long to trigger the free spins feature.
