Developers Reelplay look like they’ve taken a lot of pride in putting this game together. 10,000 Lions has the potential to be a roaring success and this isn’t just down to its inviting Lion-Kingian aesthetic - it’s also down to its interesting gameplay and its win potential.
The game is played on a 6x6 grid, plus an extra lateral reel above, which sits above reels 2 to 5 - symbols come in from right to left as opposed to top to bottom. Provided it starts from the leftmost reel, a winning combination consists of landing matching symbols on adjacent reels, including the top reel.
There’s also an exploding symbols feature, where winning combinations pay out then disappear, thereby allowing for further symbols to drop down. This continues until there are no more wins.
The 9 to Ace card symbols are the least valuable symbols. If you land a 6-of-a-kind, you can win up to 1.2x the bet. The hyena, warthog, meerkat and lioness are the higher-paying symbols. Hit a 6-of-a-kind and you can win up to 50x. The Wild Lion only appears on the top reel and it substitutes for all of the above pay symbols.
To trigger the Serengeti Bonus Respins round, you need to land 6 or more scatter symbols. The scatter symbols are the blue diamonds that contain cash values (and sometimes jackpots). Their values range from 1x to 100x and these scatters stick to the grid.
You start off with 3 respins. When the round starts, all the vacant positions on the grid spin an the object is to land as many more scatters as you can. Every time you do so, the number of respins resets to 3. When you run out of spins, the round is over and you collect all the cash values and or jackpots on the grid.
There are 4 different jackpots: the Mini, Minor, Major and the Grand. They’re worth 10x, 50x, 250x and 2,000x respectively. The Mini and Minor jackpots may be awarded more than once per round. If you manage to fill all 28 positions on the grid, a Bonus Retrigger is awarded.
The Serengeti Bonus Respins is full of win potential. You only get 3 respins, but as those respins reset with each new scatter, play can go on for a while, meaning you could see some really big hauls.
Scatter symbols can contain values of 1x to 100x the stake, plus jackpots worth up to 2,000x. Land 6 and you’ll trigger Serengeti Bonus Bonus Respins. Use your 3 respins to land as many more scatters as possible.
The RTP is 96.1% and on each spin there are up to 10,000 win ways. There’s plenty of scope for decent wins in the base game due to the high value of the pay symbols and the number of win ways. However, the bonus round takes the game’s win potential to a whole new level. The standard scatter cash values can reach 100x the stake, and you can land jackpot scatters, too. On top of that, in theory, play can go on almost indefinitely as each new symbol resets the number of spins.
The max win is 4,850x. I imagine to be in with a chance of reaching that you’d have to retrigger the bonus. To do that, you just need to fill all 28 grid positions, so it’s well within the realms of possibility. The volatility level is low.
The setting looks like a plain in the Serengeti. Behind the translucent game area, you can see a river in the foreground and some mountains in the background. To the left, there’s a list of the game’s 4 jackpots. I’m guessing the designers’ intended aesthetic was a more photoreal version of the Lion King, and they’ve definitely achieved that.
The uptempo xylophone-infused music has a definite african vibe to it - it’s melodic and very easy to listen to. Overall, the graphics are decent. Visually, it’s not the most ambitious slot, but the animations are solid, and the game looks and sounds good on both mobile and desktop. Nothing’s overly complicated, either.
I’d primarily recommend 10,000 Lions to fans of the Lion King! That said, even if you’re not a fan, there’s still plenty of good gameplay and win potential for all slot enthusiasts. Good work, Reelplay.!
