Nolimit City: "Pretty obvious that Remember Gulag is an anti war slot"
Remember Gulag continues to be controversial just days after the release
As one of the most controversial slot developers out there, Nolimit City is not afraid to push the boundaries on uncomfortable topics at times. Recently, the developers renamed their newly released slot from Vacation in Gulag to Remember Gulag.
This was ultimately a response to the current situation in Ukraine and the developers changed the tone to depict an anti-war theme even donating towards Humanitarian Assistance in Ukraine. Despite their efforts, many other reviewers and slot sites have complained about the slot and refused to accept it.
Many criticisms to Remember Gulag
There's no denying that Nolimit City is unafraid to push boundaries within the online slot world with clear examples being the depiction of gore in Tombstone RIP. However, it seems the Remember Gulag is the biggest one yet.
Many critics argue that the slot shows either a complete lack of historical knowledge or willful ignorance of what happened to those sent to the Gulag. Certain affiliates and casinos even reached out to the UK Gambling Commission and Malta Gaming Authority to try to restrict the slot.
Nolimit City's co-founder responds to the controversy
The co-founder at Nolimit City, Jonas Tegman, decided to address the topic on LinkedIn after many within the industry spoke out. He stated: "It is pretty obvious that Remember Gulag is an anti-war slot. I’m a strong believer that horrible things in the past should be talked about in order not to forget and educate the young."
"I’m sure many youngsters had to google ”Gulag" in the last 2 days in order to get a history lesson, and that is just excellent in times like this," said Tegman. "Our message is clear; war, dictatorship and incarceration do not work; not in the past, not now, not in the future."

He goes on further to compare other forms of media such as video games and movies being able to depict these topics, but that iGaming holds stronger scrutiny. He added: "If a theme can be done in a movie, it can be done in a slot; that’s my view anyway."
"Want to change the slot industry," says Nolimit City
Tegman added: "I consider myself to be a bit of a marketing and product guy in the world of slots. What the haters and snowflakes don’t understand is that they are part of our strategy to get the message and our brand out there, so we are always grateful for any buzz."
"We design our games with the intention that players should feel something more than nothing; this is good even if the feeling is bitter for certain individuals," added Tegman. "I know it’s hard to digest for some, but we are on a path where we want to change the slot industry, and we are not bound to historical "rules" on what cannot be done in a slot."
He mentions that he has learned three things from his time at Nolimit City. Tegman started by saying that people don't get the studio and secondly that people take offence when you don't act like other developers. He concluded that people that do understand the success try to copy it without understanding what they are actually doing.
All profits for this game throughout April will go directly to the Humanitarian Assistance in Ukraine.
