Four fabulous jackpot prizes, a 4,000x max win and a respins bonus with big multipliers are the main reasons why you might want to pick up Spinnin' Records into the Beat and take it for a spin. It's the latest game to come out of the Play’n GO studios and we wait patiently to see if it makes all the right noises.

Spinnin' Records into the Beat Review

Where would we be without Play ‘n GO delivering some of the clunkiest slot titles known to man? They've done it again with this one and they've even tried to make the gameplay just as awkward by the looks of things. You need to step up and have an open mind if you're going to enjoy this latest release.

Gameplay & Features

The game area may change in size as you move between the base game and bonus feature but there are a few things to work out before we get to that stage.

Across the 5x3 set of base game reels, you have 20 ways to win and royal symbols along with four picture symbols will produce the wins. From the royal symbols, the best you can hope for is a set of five aces and these pay you 5x. From the picture symbols, the monkey DJ will pay 50x for a five-of-a-kind.

There's a wild symbol that has the same 50x top prize and these substitute for all other regular symbols.

Special record symbols and regular record symbols might land during the base game and these will either show a multiplier of your bet amount or one of the jackpots.

The records have two functions and the first is to hopefully land at the same time as a special record symbol to have their value collected.

Each time you spin the reels, you have a step number between one and five and this will upgrade the prizes that you collect with your special records symbol up to five times.

Bonus Game

The main bonus feature is essentially a respins game and you need at least six record symbols to land to trigger it. If you manage this, you get a 5x3 grid but if you hit seven record symbols, then you play on a 5x4 grid. 8 record symbols unlock the extreme version with a 5x5 grid.

The reels respin and you have three lives. Each time you fail to land a record symbol, you lose a life. Three spins without hitting a special symbol means it’s game over and you return to the base game with any prizes you've accumulated so far.

Some of these symbols may be jackpots while others will be the standard multipliers of your bet amount.

Every special symbol resets your three spins and if you manage to complete a grid, the maximum number of five steps is used to upgrade all of the prizes that appear.

Spinnin' Records into the Beat - Step Up Instant Prizes

Step Up Instant Prizes

Special record symbols trigger this feature and all record symbols in view are stepped up in value, depending on the step figure that arrives on that spin. The special record symbol and others pay out their values.

Spinnin' Records into the Beat - Lock ’n Spin

Lock ’n Spin

Hit six, seven or eight record symbols and you’ll play the Lock ‘n Spin grid to hopefully land big prizes. The more records that trigger the game, the bigger the grid will be. Each record symbol resets your three spins and if you complete a grid, record values are stepped up by 5. Jackpots can also be displayed on the record symbols.

Win Potential

As is sometimes the case with Play‘n GO titles, regardless of the volatility, you might end up with a lot of bad spins. That's not to say that you won't occasionally hit some good ones and with a 4,000x top prize, that could be quite a substantial payout. The hit frequency feels very low and the probability of landing the max win is less than one in a billion.

The base game failed to award me any substantial chunks of cash but luckily the Lock ‘n Spin game was a little more generous.

Design

The designers have gone for a strange neon-lit nightclub feel – futuristic with robots and monkeys spinning the decks. A few animations are offered with the most obvious being the crowd jumping to the beat just below the reels. The game area takes over with its 5x3 grid and just above that, you can make out the jackpot prizes available. There's quite a lot of detail going on here but mobile phones are able to cope with it quite nicely.

Our Verdict

Spinnin' Records into the Beat is one of those games that probably won't show you a lot of love for quite a while and even when the big payouts come, you may not be overly impressed. However, other players are going to take a couple of spins and wonder what on Earth I'm talking about! The only way to find out is by giving it a go for yourself.

On the other hand, you might want to aim for another type of slot that offers weird DJs. If that’s the case, check out Jammin’ Jars 2.
