Fishin' Bigger Pots of Gold Review
The Fishin’ Bigger Pots of Gold game from Gameburger Studios is an odd but satisfying mix of luck-of-the-Irish and an underwater adventure game. With 5 reels and 3 rows in the base game, and a pretty standard 10 paylines, you could be forgiven for thinking this slot is going to be pretty forgettable.
But with a very tongue-in-cheek and interesting theme, plus loads of special features thrown in, Fishin’ Bigger Pots of Gold makes for a surprisingly enjoyable game that gives you tons of chances to reel in a big win!
The Fish Flurry and Collect features are our favourites, with Lucky Lad Flynn reeling in lots of juicy ‘cash’ and ‘jackpot’ symbols, and landing you some very decent prizes. With a RTP of 96.05%, this is pretty good for a high volatility slot. And once you enter the free spins round, not only can you get up to 20 extra spins to use off the bat, but there's also the chance for up to a 100x multiplier and even additional respins.
Finally, the game has 4 different jackpots on offer, which is impressive for a game that is not a progressive jackpot title. And if you're fortunate enough to get Lucky Lad Flynn to catch those jackpot symbols, then you could walk away with an impressive 5,000x your stake.
Design
In all honesty, when we saw the title we thought ‘here we go, another Irish-themed slot!’ But, given that this Celtic charmer is mixed in with an underwater theme, this slot certainly stands out from a very saturated genre.
The animations are bold, bright and colourful, and we particularly like the underwater background with lots of flora, fauna, fish and even floating bubble shamrocks to liven up proceedings. There's also an underwater rainbow, if you can imagine such a thing, with the jackpot meter running alongside it.
The symbols are a mix of the classic letters, along with some Irish and fishy-themed symbols, including some shamrock-adorned boots, fishing rods and other knick knacks and of course the ubiquitous pots of gold.
If we had one negative thing to say, the symbols are pretty generic and stereotypical, and not much imagination has been put into creating the imagery. That said, the animations here are typical for both a Celtic slot and an underwater game. The fact that Gameburger Studios has put the two genres together is quite inventive in itself, and the end result is a fun-looking game that will appeal to many different types of players.
Finally, the soundtrack starts off as a calm but jolly Irish ditty, which goes into a bit more of a guitar-led frenzy when you enter the free spins round. There's not much that we haven't heard when it comes to Luck-of-the-Irish styled music, but the fast-paced beat as the game heats up certainly adds to the atmosphere, but could become a little grating over time. It’s a little bit of the Teletubbies-meets-Thin-Lizzy, which is quite niche but could be right up your alley!
Gameplay
When you open Fishin’ Bigger Pots of Gold, you'll find this to be a standard slot. The game begins with 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 paylines, and you match symbols left to right across the reels. So there's nothing exciting to report here. However, the reels spin nice and quickly, with colourful and vibrant graphics, and the soundtrack adds to the jovial atmosphere, so the base game itself is still rather fun to play.
Once you get into the free spins round, the number of special features and paylines increases. This is due to the addition of 2 extra rows and an impressive extra 10 paylines. So it’s really worth your while trying to make it to this round. Plus, with the Fish Flurry, Acca Trail and Collect features all coming together, this game suddenly grabs your attention.
If Fishin’ Bigger Pots of Gold were just an Irish-themed slot, then it probably wouldn’t stand out from the competition with its graphics or style of play. The same goes for if it had just gone with the underwater theme. But somehow, with the two genres mixed together, and some truly excellent special features, this game just about beats out the competition as one of the most exciting standard slots on the market. And of course, the 4 jackpots aren’t to be scoffed at either!
Win Potential
This game is highly volatile, meaning that it won’t pay out all that often, but when it does, the prizes should be at the higher end of the scale. And with 4 jackpots and a load of ‘cash’ and ‘jackpot’ symbols floating around, reeling in a win is actually a lot easier than we initially thought it would be.
Fishin’ Bigger Pots of Gold also has an above-average RTP of 96.05%, which is good news and quite unusual for such a highly volatile game. And with a good range of minimum and maximum bet amounts, this slot title will suit both low bettors and high rollers.
All in all, this is a fun, exciting and light-hearted game that gives you many opportunities to catch a win, and potentially walk away with a great top prize.
Our Verdict
It’s fair to say we really enjoyed playing Fishin’ Bigger Pots of Gold. The combination of Irish and underwater themes is an odd choice from Gameburger Studios, but it somehow works well to give you a tongue-in-cheek, jolly game that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
But don’t be fooled by this slot title’s cute exterior. Fishin’ Bigger 9 Pots of Gold has some seriously good prizes on offer, and with 4 jackpots, up to 20 paylines and the Collect and Acca Trails all helping you to accrue those all-important wins, you could be the toast of Irish Sea, as you reel in the biggest catch of the day!
