Coba Reborn Review
The original Coba slot was pretty innovative in its approach to creating symbol stacks and, therefore, bringing even bigger winning clusters to the reels. The snake meter makes a return and the various modifiers are still slithering around as well. But does Coba Reborn bring anything new to the party?
Design
The grid is almost a carbon copy of the first adventure but the snake meter has been adapted slightly and fitted to the top of the reels. The addition of the colourful flowers does brighten up another wise slightly dingy-looking backdrop, but it is exactly where you would imagine these snakes would be hiding out.
The theme tune hasn't had too much of a revamp either and it is still just as dramatic with some classic sound effects accompanying each spin. The snake animation doesn't have to be over the top as it’s merely creating simple stacks of symbols—just in a fairly unconventional manner.
You can watch these limbless squamates squirm their way around your screen on a variety of different devices including Apple and Android mobiles as well. You shouldn't have any trouble watching the action unfold on a smaller screen.
Game Play
With no distinct bonus feature to aim for, the game does plateau slightly as you wait for the snakes to arrive and add their modifiers. That said, the winning opportunities are increased as they appear so this does compensate somewhat for the lack of tension buildup.
Some players outside the UK can bring about top snake activity using the X-iter option and this allows you to pay various sums to produce different snake-related enhancements.
Win Potential
As with the original, there is a possibility of landing a top 25,000x win, but bear in mind that the volatility has been squeezed even higher the second time around. The hit frequency is also lower at 30% and the RTP has taken a battering to bring it down a whole 1% to 94%.
Our Verdict
Comparing slot sequels to their predecessors may or may not be advisable, but is very hard to avoid. The original seemed a little more groundbreaking when it first hit our screens a year ago and this reboot may not go far enough to convince some players that a second coming was necessary.
In its defence, there are additions to this game that will please some slot enthusiasts but those who get hung up on the stats may be slightly disturbed with the results. The best thing you can do is check out the original and then give this one a go and see which one you like the best.
Paul spent plenty of time in arcades up and down the UK discovering all of the best fruit machines and watching them grow into the incredible online slots we see today. He still loves the basic format but also has a soft spot for games with big bonus rounds that progress as you play. Immortal Romance is one of his favourite slots of all time.
