Abrakadabra Review
Peter & Sons seem to have enlisted the help of Tim Burton in their latest smash hit slot, Abrakadabra, as this game has a very familiar feel. Ok, so Mr Burton obviously wasn't involved but they've done a fantastic job of capturing that magic.
Of late, this game developer has managed to find the right level of complexity for its features and doesn't leave anyone with a confused look on their face at any point. There is just enough going on to keep you amused while at the same time allowing you to appreciate a little bit of clever mathematics taking part behind the scenes.
Design
As you can probably guess, this slot features some odd little characters that each have their part to play. These animated little creatures all appear in the graveyard and make up the higher-paying symbols. The playing card symbols all the lower payers, as usual.
Everything fits together in a clever but simple way and there's no dead space around this production so your eyes will have a good time wherever they wander. The soundtrack is not our favourite but it does a job and nobody is going to be irritated by its presence at any point. Finally, you can pick up Abrakadabra on Apple and Android mobile devices if you'd like to try it out that way.
Game Play
We love the Step Multiplier but it can be frustrating when you start building up to a decent figure only to see it reset between winning spins. But we guess that is part of the appeal and it keeps you coming back for more!
Obviously, the Free Spins Bonus removes this frustration and helps boost your balance along a little quicker. The addition of Super Free Spins is a nice thought but realistically you're going to be there for a long time if you're trying to build up 450 scatter symbols.
Players outside of the UK may have the opportunity to use the Power Bet, which guarantees a better chance of seeing Scatter symbols as well as buying their way into the bonus game directly.
Win Potential
As we have said a few times 10,000x is the maximum win available on this game. You will have to accept the volatility is extremely high with this one so don't expect to see regular wins of much value for long periods of time. But the beauty is that a massive payout can land all of a sudden. You should expect to see a win of some variety every four spins or so.
Our Verdict
Abrakadabra has opened our eyes to new magic-themed slot possibilities. We weren't fans of the theme in the past but Peter & Sons has done a sterling job of converting us. The Power Reel adds an element of excitement never knowing when those Wilds might drop and the old faithful Step Multiplier keeps things feeling familiar at the same time. We would certainly recommend a few spins!
Paul spent plenty of time in arcades up and down the UK discovering all of the best fruit machines and watching them grow into the incredible online slots we see today. He still loves the basic format but also has a soft spot for games with big bonus rounds that progress as you play. Immortal Romance is one of his favourite slots of all time.
