Safer Gambling Week 2022 is just around the corner and it’s time for us all to start thinking about exactly what safer gambling means. #SGWeek22 is much more than just raising awareness for players. It’s an initiative aimed at making everyone involved in the gambling industry understand that customer safety comes first. And importantly, that we all need to pull in the same direction to protect those most at risk.

From 17th - 23rd October 2022, safergamblinguk.org is spearheading the drive to distribute vital info to various parts of our society that could be vulnerable to the risks associated with excessive gambling. And it isn’t just the adults who’ll be receiving key pointers to keep them safe. There are resources available for schools, carers and youth centres too.

Children can come into contact with gambling on a regular basis if older friends or family members enjoy online or in-person gaming. And through this exposure, they may learn bad habits from a young age.

How Safer Gambling Week is looking to help

The Safer Gambling Week campaign is striving to show that there are effective ways to protect and assist everyone when any form of gambling is introduced into our lives. When approached in the right way, it can be an enjoyable and entertaining hobby. But, in the rare cases when things go awry, there can be serious consequences. So the awareness campaign is helping everyone to stay on the right track with a 3-pronged course of assistance.

Education

Talking to people of all ages to warn them of the perils of gambling irresponsibly is the first step. After all, prevention is better than cure. One of the main aspects here is reinforcing the point that gambling is not a way to make money. That may seem like somewhat of a paradox but the ultimate aim is to have fun. If a little money is made along the way, then that’s a bonus.

Another important part of learning about responsible gambling is to recognise the tell-tale signs of problematic behaviour. This may be in others that enjoy a flutter or even in our own gambling activity. Spending less time with friends and loved ones, borrowing money and irritability are all well-known traits to look out for.

Tools

For those of us who may have ventured into unhealthy territory, there are many tools available to get us back on the right course. #SGWeek22 is highlighting the wealth of both tech-based and personal solutions. From simple tips such as setting time limits to site blocking software, there are some incredible options out there and we all have access to them.

Advice

Anyone concerned about their own or another person’s gambling behaviour needs to be able to talk about the issue. Safer Gambling Week is keen to promote an open forum where everyone can ask questions and get help. And there are loads of charitable, government-funded, and privately-run organisations out there to assist with this goal.

Getting that contact info out into the mainstream is one of the principal objectives.

How Slot Gods is supporting the event

Throughout Safer Gambling Week, Slot Gods will be active on all social channels to spread the word about this campaign. And here on our site, there will also be useful articles published. Our team takes the subject of responsible gambling extremely seriously and wants to assist wherever possible.

We’ll be sharing key hints and tips that complement the SGWeek aims. This includes how to recognise changes in behaviour, how to get help and ultimately how to take control of the situation. We also aim to carry on helping and advising our readership throughout the year to continue the campaign's goals long term.
