The only excuse for having not heard of this TV series is living under a rock! This deadly fight for survival sees players take on childhood games and each other in a bid to walk away with huge prizes and their head on their shoulders.
The original Squid Game slot went for a lot more authenticity with its bonus features but this sequel also provides a few subtle nods that aficionados will appreciate.
This iconic action is delivered across a 5x3 set of reels with lots of symbology from the TV series that you're going to know and love. There are bags of marbles at the top of the game area, jackpots down the left-hand side and the man in the mask just won't leave us alone.
Wins are collected when matching symbols land on adjacent reels. You must have at least three matching symbols to create a combo and it all starts on the left-most reel.
The lowest payers are the royal symbols, so no surprises there. The largest wins with these symbols are up to 4x and a minimum of 1x for a three-of-a-kind.
Picture symbols range between 3x and 40x for groups of three, four or five. The game's logo will get you the top 40x for a 5-of-a-kind win.
Wild symbols can land at any point but you won't see them on the first two reels, which is a shame as it often hampers the win potential. However, they are quite powerful as they stick around for more than one spin and move up a space on the reels until they disappear from view. You could have several of these land at any one time.
There's a mini-feature that can help you out during the base game and this goes by the name of Ddakji Bonus. It's the familiar envelope task where one is slammed on top of the other to see which side is facing up as it drops. In this game, it seems to be pretty much guaranteed that you'll pick up the prize on the envelope and this is around 38x.
The other symbols that you'll see kicking about are the coloured marbles and these green, blue and red orbs hold the key to entering the bonus features.
It seems a shame that the game offers three coloured marbles but only two features. The problem is that the blue and green marbles can trigger free spins with not much to differentiate between the pair other than the number of spins you get.
Marbles head up to the bag at the top and occasionally, the feature bursts into life. Don't take too much notice of the animation as it isn't an indicator of when the feature will arrive. It could reach up to 12 free spins if you see both the blue and green marbles trigger the free spins bonus at the same time.
The red marbles are integral to picking up jackpot prizes during the free spins game as one of these can pick you up a Mini or Minor prize or additional spins.
Entering the bonus game with the red marble means that you’ll choose between a number of cookie tins until you reveal three jackpots. If you get three upgrade symbols before this happens, then your revealed jackpot will be pushed up a notch.

At any point in the base game, this bonus can trigger randomly and award you a prize worth around 38x. It's a familiar sight as the envelopes are used to flip each other over and bag a payout.
Thanks to the wild symbols, you can receive some pretty decent wins during the base game. However, it isn't until you get into the jackpot bonus that you'll see the really big prizes start to fall. The mini pays out at around 25x but all of those above that are pretty substantial at 60x, 250x and 1,250x.
I managed to walk away from this low volatility game with my balance higher than when I started and it was due to those red marble prizes. If you pick up a couple of Grand jackpots, then you walk away with the game’s max payout of 2,500x.
The original game felt a little more true to the series than this sequel does but there's still a lot of iconic imagery here. Some of the symbols are characters from the show and the collection of marbles reminds us of that fateful game from the first series.
It's a pink hue on which the reels are set and the soundtrack goes for more of an electronic computer feel rather than any of the music we are used to. It's an acceptable adaptation but I think I preferred the original more and that goes for both desktop and mobile.
If this was the first in the series of Squid Game adaptations, then it would have been hard to fault it but unfortunately, it was going up against a very impressive predecessor. The features aren't as refined, the imagery isn't as familiar and the max win is a lot lower.
What Squid Game Gganbu has going for it is the chance to combine free spins with jackpot bonus games.
