Queen of Egypt: Exotic Wilds Review
There are two types of Ancient Egyptian slots. The first is a generic game that contains formulaic gameplay and familiar visuals. The second category is one that tries to do something different with unique features. Armadillo Studios' Queen of Egypt: Exotic Wilds falls into the second camp.
On the surface, it may seem like any other Egyptian slot based on Cleopatra with 5-reels and 243 paylines. However, with adjustable volatility in bonus rounds, exotic wilds and prize pots, Queen of Egypt: Exotic Wilds delivers something extra to players.
When the slot opens up, it's hard to deny that the visuals are quite bland and just like every other Egyptian slot. In the distance, there is a blurry pyramid followed by a desert that is hard to see. The reels themselves are situated at a gate but there is little detail here.
However, the reels do have detailed symbols with Cleopatra, ankhs, staffs, gems and other Egyptian trinkets. Even the lower-value symbols have more definition than the background which is strange.
The music throughout this slot is expected with an Arabian score in the background matched with drums to build up more intensity. It's definitely befitting for an Egyptian slot.
Whilst the design may have some room for improvement, the gameplay is absolutely fantastic. The wilds are not normal in this slot as they both expand and deliver multipliers. Additionally, there are three different free spin rounds with varying volatility and even a prize pot feature.
The general user interface for this slot is pretty easy to navigate as the spin button and bet level buttons are just to the right. Anything else can literally be found at the bottom left.
Unfortunately, the win potential for this slot is quite a mixed bag starting off poor with an RTP of 95%. This is under the average of 96% as lower amounts are only accepted with progressive jackpots or branded slots.
There is medium to high volatility in this slot which mostly delivers larger wins but less frequently. With a lower RTP, we'd expect the maximum win to be quite huge but it's at a standard level of 5,000x the stake which is disappointing. Players can receive the maximum through the fixed jackpots.
Queen of Egypt: Exotic Wilds is certainly a mixed bag when it comes to the overall presentation of the game. On the one hand, the design feels a little outdated and the win potential statistics are not what we would expect.
However, the gameplay and features are absolutely incredible. These aspects feel like they are revitalising the genre. For that reason alone, Queen of Egypt: Exotic Wilds is worth a spin but the win potential statistics may stop this slot from becoming a cult-classic.
