Catrina's Coins Review
When you first load up Catrina's coins, you get the impression that things are a little basic and there might not be a lot going on. However, you'll soon see that those Piñata and Star symbols have the ability to liven things up a little. The rest of the setup is pretty self-explanatory and isn't anything you haven't seen before. Simple, decent-looking and has the potential to pay out some super jackpots.
Design
Sometimes basic is what you want and too many flashing images and animations can drag your eye away from the action if you are not careful. I wasn't overly excited when first presented with Catrina's Coins but I began to appreciate the understated approach that Quickspin has adopted for this creation. The reels are set into some sort of cupboard—excuse my ignorance if this is some form of traditional, Mexican artefact!
As you can imagine, it all takes place outside in a small Mexican pueblo and there's a lovely soothing guitar riff playing over in the background. Upon entry to the bonus game, which incidentally can be achieved through a direct buy-in in some areas outside the UK, the trumpets begin to perk up and the action gets a bit of an energy boost.
Gameplay
The base game benefits from all of these special modifiers being readily available in the form of Piñata, Star and Catrina Coin symbols and they all have the ability to bring decent wins. It’s a bit of an arduous journey as you wait for the Pueblo del Cielo feature to arrive, but when it does, you'll be glad you got there. The wins begin to increase fairly drastically in my short-lived experience with this game and it is where every player will want to be.
Win Potential
The high volatility needs to be kept in check throughout your Mexican viaje as it does have the potential to make a dent in your balance if you aren't careful. The max win here is 10,000x and you can expect a top 96.06% RTP.
My Verdict
Catrina's Coins kind of caught me off guard a little and I completely underestimated the power behind the scenes. This simple but effective little game has the potential for big wins and will keep you entertained throughout. What more can I say? Give it a shot!
