I don't think slot fans will ever leave spiritual tombs alone as they offer too much temptation when you slap a set of reels on the front of them. Aztec Lightning Blitz takes us to an overly populated slot niche and offers a very basic setup. However, I've taken a closer look inside this temple and I think it might be worth your while reading on.
Given that you have six reels plus a horizontal reel running across the top, there are up to 10,000 ways to win. No paylines to worry about here. Simply land matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel and you have a payout.
Three matching symbols is the minimum requirement with royal symbols paying up to 1x. The mask symbols can pay up to 5x for a six-of-a-kind win. As winning symbols land and create a win, they disappear and new ones take their place.
Wild symbols can land and substitute for all other regular payers but they only appear on the top reel. Cash and jackpot symbols are available throughout all parts of the game but you will need a wild symbol to land and collect these values.
The jackpot prizes pay from 10x up to 2,000x for the Grand prize. You may be more likely to see these wins as you enter the bonus game because a wild symbol is there with every spin.
You'll need four scatter symbols to trigger the bonus game but for this, you only get two free spins – this is probably the lowest amount I've ever heard of! Five scatters get you three spins, six scatters award five spins and seven scatters get the maximum 7 free spins.
The main reason for so few spins should be that the payouts are going to be incredible, I guess. Only wild symbols can land on the top reel and prize symbols will land on the regular reels. Keep your fingers crossed that a few jackpots appear.
I was lucky enough to trigger the bonus game but unlucky enough to only get two free spins. The first spin produced 15x and on my second spin, I hit the minor prize, which stands at 50x. That's not a bad return.
The version that I played didn't have any booster options or bonus buy-ins so I can't comment on these. However, outside the UK, there may well be some further options.

With low volatility and a reachable max win of 2,000x, you'd hope to see some regular payouts that should keep your balance looking fairly healthy. I'm pleased to say that was my experience with this game and I received wins that regularly exceeded my stake.
You can hit a few dry spins but that's fairly normal for any game. The one downside I found was that scatter symbols don't appear very often so it could be difficult to trigger the bonus game. That's not a huge problem as jackpot prizes can arrive throughout the base game as well and even the standard payers picked me up 50x and 30x wins as I span the reels.
There's nothing to make this Aztec-themed game stand out from the crowd, but it's going to be difficult when your options are quite limited. It takes a developer to think outside the box and that hasn't really happened on this occasion. You've got a couple of temples dotted around, some vines and a gentle breeze. You’ll hear some panpipes in the background – for a change!
There's nothing wrong with the way it looks on desktop or mobile but it isn't fabulous. That said, I do like a bright and colourful game, and Aztec Lightning Blitz certainly meets that criteria.
Aztec Lightning Blitz appears to be quite a run-of-the-mill slot in many ways. There's nothing particularly intriguing about the payout mechanic and the features and design won't inspire you on any level.
What it does have going for it is some very favourable stats and a lack of necessity to enter the bonus game.
